Agree, aftermarket is garbage. The first one that broke was OEM Mercury Quicksilver starter. The second one is an ARCO, made in Pensacola, FL. I know this an old thread... But was there ever any resolution to this?

I'm having the same problem with my 1999 200 optimax starter. Been through 4 in 2 years. 2 were OEM's.
