Anybody notice this too?........

Post by Gerryjig »

Not to stir the pot, but I fished a recent tourney and there was no boat inspection, the calling out of team #'s in order to go out was a complete cluster off the short ramp in the corner (the long dock would have been best as the teams would have had plenty of room in the large cove and wouldn't get in the way of others wanting to launch).....and when it was time to come in, nobody was at the bouy line or the end of the dock to check on late teams (and there were).....anybody else recognize this?.......I know a frequent poster here did because I asked if he was checked and he said no also.....kinda weak to say the least. You would think that org. would be "on it" a little better....this was a first from what I've experienced in that org. I guess my recent decision to not fish that particular org. proved itself as a good decision. 8)

Yeah Gerry, my partner & myself noticed the same thing? We both thought it was sort of strange too. The crowded cluster mess at the send off made no sense with people launching for the tourney mixed in with the general Yahoos that frequent the lake these days & no check in boat at the end kida left things wide open for late arrivals. Perhaps next time it will be different ? Good job on your 3rd place finish.

There were roughly 30 teams. And we were real surprised by the
no boat check before the tourney and no check-in official anywhere to be found. Not good.

Calling people who fish for fun "Yahoos" is not very nice. Do you think that because you are in the tournament you should have special privileges and are higher among the rest who fish that particular lake that day? Or do you think you are a better stick then some who don’t fish the “tournamentsâ€

I saw this quite a bit last year. I've seen boats purposely sit way outside of the rest of the cluster. So when their boat number was called, they got out before others with better boat numbers. That was plain wrong!

I liked how NB did it last month. I'm sure that Adam and Chris Koda will take this string of posts to heart, and ensure this stuff doesn't go on at the AC on Saturday.

Are you for real Kota69?? I called no one an idiot...but I may now!! I was not refering to any anglers in a tournament or not in a tournament. I was refering to Yahoos that bring their speed boats & day cruisers to this lake on a constant basis these days and have no intention of fishing for anything.
Did I state anything about non tournament anglers in my post?? I think not . I guess you must be a modern "sensative" type of guy & if I wrote something that hurt your self esteem I appologize!! Most folks on this board know each other & know what's being talked about. Perhaps you should chill out & let things be discussed without "popping off"!! Know the facts first my weekend, non tournament fishing, sensative, modern angler!!

Diamond valley

Post by Schneider Fishing »

You guys must be talking about Diamond Valley AB tournament. Give Mike a chance. It was his first event for AB that I know of. I wasn't there but Mike is a pretty good guy. Like I said, I didn't fish the event but I know that DVL is dificult to run tournaments from. You can't get the boats out before sunrise and that is the same time that the general public can also launch and fish. The general public can also enter the Marine at the same time as the tournament anglers. Makes it kind of hard to know who is who when the boats are taking off. No excuse for the no check in person/boat. But give the guy a chance. Maybe it would have been more polite to have just emailed Mike instead of ripping him here online for everyone to see. There is going to be a growth curve with experience. I've seen the tournament directors job. I don't want it. I am sure you can ask just about any of the many tournament directors that visit this site and I am sure they will tell you they have gotten better over the years. Of course that all assumes that I have assumed correctly that you folks are writting about AB DVL last weekend. If I am wrong, then just ignore my post and I'll delete it latter.

Guys, I have to agree that everything was a little hectic on Sunday, but lets give the director a little credit. He was really trying hard to do his best job with what he had to work with and it was his first tournament. I agree that it should be mandatory to check all boats before a derby, but he was the only one there in the morning. Not that it makes it right, but I pretty much knew everyone that fished on Sunday. Lets all cut him a little slack and give him a chance to learn as he goes. I had fun!

Hey Brian,

Good finish Bud...I was just trying to make a little constructive criticism when Gerry axed da' question 'dis a.m. I think for the most part, the director ran a real good tourney...especially for the first time!! The whole deal turned out good & you're right...it was a good time for all...no harm...no foul...I'm glad he's taken the job of director & look forward to the rest of 'em this year!!

Yahoo a definition

Post by Smitty »

Any boater, recreational fisherman, tournament fisherman or jet skier that doesnt pay attention at the ramp and gets in everyones way with no regard for anyone elses time.

You all know what I mean. Leaving the tow vehicle lights on blinding the boats in the water on the way down the ramp and the other tow vehicles on the way up the ramp. Loading your ice chest etc... from said tow vehicle to boat on the ramp. Docking for a 1/2 hour while you make a bathroom stop and bs'ing with anyone who will listen while solo users of the facilities are left waiting.

Jeff feel free to comment if I missed your point but I think this is along the lines of what you mean.

You hit the nail on the head Smitty!! Maybe now we can use this term freely again...it's such a fitting word for those "ramp rats"you just defined....& it's more politically correct than using the words I can't write on this forum!!........some of which I'm sure are used by many of us under our breath on early a.m. boat ramps these days!! Good job!!

I completely agree with a learning curve for everything and "time on" to get things dialed in.......but there are just a couple of things on the list that must be done for any tournament .... a boat inspection along with a "flight check in".....if you miss either one of just those two......you've lost some integrity for the event....not good in my eyes and I'm sure others. Somebody mentioned the effort that goes into these events and I totaly agree that it's definately something that would be a labor of love.....ton's of time and work....great job and KUDOS to anybody that does this... and thanks too... because I have a great time fishing all and or any events. Sorry to have perhaps sent a negative vibe, but if you think about it, it's good for every single team or solo tournament angler.....keeping Tournament Organizations on their feet works for everybody that competes......and the orgs too!....really

Hear is a reply from a diredtor. First did any mention to the director that there was no boat check? Did any one volunteer to help out? As far as the checkin boat did any one mention it to the director? I have found that most directors are always willing to recieve any constructive, suggestions.
I know at my first few tournaments if it had not been for the anglers everything would have been messed up. I guess what I am trying to say a tournament is only as good as its director and ANGLERS. If you see something wrong or see the director needs some help step up anf VOLUNTEER you would be surprised how it makes things better. And when one angler sees another helping they will step also. To the director in question now you see why all directors have grey hair. Give him a chance and step up and help.
See you at Diamond Valley Saturday. Vern

Mike,

In the future, I don't want to see you during early morning sign ups without some gloves. You were shaking and shivering so much that you were making me cold. :D
