Clear lake trip new to area. Any advice appreciated

Post by skeeter11 »

Hey guys, I heard from a fellow fisherman that this forum and website is awesome. So I am here to hopefully get a couple questions answered and any advice would be much appreciated.

Just moved to Northern Ca from LA area (wanted to slow down a lil bit in life) lol.
Anyways im planning my first trip to clear lake with a buddy of mine for the first time ever. We will be going in march 25th-28th.
Was wondering if any you Northern Cali fisherman have any suggestions on Places to stay? Looking for a hotel but i heard and read up on some cabins that you could rent out but there is so many. Also want to consider what areas of the lake are good for fishing for this time of the year and somewhere I could stay In close proximity.

Any suggestions or tips would help me alot! So stoked for my first time ever to clear lake and i want it to be a good one!

Thanks!

Focus on the north end of the lake from Konocti resort (closed) to Lakeport The tackle shops in lakeport and Clearlake are great and very helpful as well. RR

As mentioned above you can not go wrong with konocti vista casino hotel, as far as the lake, the whole thing is good get a map, study it and break it down by section, Clear lake is a fun lake but it also has a lot to offer at different times of the year, everyone fishes differently and prefers different methods. You can catch em several different ways! Get out there and have fun!

If you have some flexibility in your schedule, I would push it back a couple weeks if it were me. Two very large tournaments back to back, ending your first day there. Bite could be better later anyway.

Never stayed there, but have heard lots of good things about the Skylark in Lakeport. As far as possibly postponing your trip, if you push it back to mid-April you will be getting closer to spawn. Lots of bed areas from Long Tule Point to County Park to State Park, right by the swim beach. We took second place in a club tourney fishing there a couple of years ago, never moved out of the beach area.
