Cody Meyer's Whole Story on the World Record Spot

Post by WB Staff »

Along with fellow angler J.R. Wright, Cody Meyer launched on to a NorCal lake shooting photos for TW.

With an eight-pound spot already in the box, Meyer targeted a “do-nothing point” that he located on his electronics and reeled in the catch of a lifetime - a 10.80 spotted bass.

”It was one of those clay points that you fish a million of and don’t get bit,” recalled the Daiwa pro. “There was a little cut by the point and some water coming down; so it was just the perfect storm.”

Cody mentioned in another story he used 15 lb braid main line and 6 lb Tatsu as a leader. If this is true the the main line must be used for line class IGFA records.

If that's true, it's a kind of a dumb rule. "A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link."

The logic comes from using heavier leaders then main lines common in salt water fishing.
You must supply the IGFA 100' of main line plus any leader used to catch a record fish, lots of rules! Leaders can only be 15' long it 30' if a double leader, agian common in salt water fishing.

Tom,
Will his fish count as caught on 6 lb. test?

No, if he used 15 lb braid main line it would be submitted as a 16 lb test or all tackle record.

So it is the main line, and not the leader, that determines the record class?
That makes sense to me when you need a 100 lb leader on a bill fish so you don't get sawed off during the fight, but how can that makes sense when you have a 6 lb leader in contact with a fish's mouth during the entire fight?
