San Mateo ISE Round Table Question Contest

Post by kb »

The ISE show in San Mateo is this weekend and we will have a great line-up of bass anglers on the demo tank. Skeet Reese, Robert Lee, Mike Reynolds, Dave Rush, Dee Thomas, Kent Brown, Jim Davis, Tony Franceschi, Zack Thompson, Anthony Pimentel and more will be on hand to conduct seminars and answer questions.

On Saturday at 12:30 we will once again have the "round table" seminar with Skeet, Robert, Dave, Mike and Dee. You get to ask all the questions and this year we are once again giving you the opportunity to have your question asked at the show. If your question is picked you will win 2 tickets to the show and they wll be left at the will call window.

The contest will run Monday and Tuesday. We will pick the questions on Wednesday and notify of your winning question. You can direct the question to an individual angler or the group.

You must post the question under this thread on the forum!

See you at the show!

Question for Skeet. With all the rain that we have had recently and with Lake Sonoma getting muddy throughout most of the lake. Where would he start looking for active and feeding bass?

Question for everyone.... Due to the heavy rains, most of our lakes are over the normal amount of water in them, and this is making owner's lower the water levels in a time when they are normally stable or filling. What is your best suggestion for catching fish in colder water, when lake levels are falling rapidly, ie 6" to 12" per day.

Question directed to Skeet, Mike and Robert:

With the current changes and direction of BASS, what is your present opinion of these changes and how do they affect your future plans fishing on the National Level? Secondly, if you were just starting out today, had aspirations of fishing at this National level, would you today attempt to run the course layed out by BASS, or might you take advantage of playing the game over at FLW? And lastly, what are your feelings towards what BASS versus FLW offers the proffessional bass fishermen, in the way of oppurtunities to enjoy making a way of life, fishing tournaments?

Entire panel:

In light of recent antics that have began to pop up in recent years, regarding extreme antics and outrageous commercialism in bass fishing, if we were to go back to the throw back days of pro on pro tournaments, who would ya rather fish with on the last day of a big event, Ike and his screaming antics or Gary Dobyns of the "pink thong in an Evenrude commercial" fame and why?

Question for Robert Lee.

When approaching the Delta, what is the single most important factor you look for in where you decide to fish.

For the entire panel

Given the recent revelations of some individuals cheating in tournaments. How much of a problem do you believe this has become and how would you propose to reduce the chances for unethical behavior in tournaments?

My question goes along with Cooch's question for the entire panel. How would you recommend an angler step up from weekend and club tourny fishing to a high level of competion where you can actually learn from more experienced anglers. Clubs and alot of team events tend not to share very much information. Beisdes a guide how can an angler where can an angler really benifit?

Professional golfers are limited to 14 clubs in their bag. Should there be a similar limit on the number of outfits (rod/reel combo's) that a tournament angler can have in the boat, and, if so, what should that limit be and why?

Ok wait a minute....Cooch is that REALLY dobyns in that Evinrude commercial??? I have never been able to actually look directly at the TV while it is playing!
My question may be considered a partial repeat of Cooch's question-we have discussed this here SEVERAL times and I'd love to know how the pros feel about fishing out of a "Imodium","Cialais","Tylenol"wrapped boat. I see the point of a Lucky Craft wrap or a Ranger wrap but a h***-on drug? Seems sad as hell to me and I just cant imagine this is what Ray Scott had in mind. Cant wait for the show-Thanks Kent!

Technology for angling has evolved over the years, mostly driven by competitive bass fishing, including flashers, paper graphs, LCD graphs, thermometers, light meters, GPS, underwater cameras, and now a sound reproduction unit. What will the next technology be and what will it do for the bass angler?

Entire panel: I'm a twenty-one year old kid wanting to take it to the top level in fishing some day... if you were in my shoes and just starting out...what body of water would you dedicate youself to so you could learn the whole aspect of bass fishing starting from the basics and how long would you spend learning that body of water before you stepped up to the next level?

It has often been said that confidence in one's ability is a key factor for success in tournament angling, and that gaining that confidence comes from time on the water. What did you do to make your time on the water useful, that is, what questions did you ask, what answers did you seek, what skills did you spend time learning and practicing, and from what experiences did you gain the most confidence?

For the entire panel-

Say you are a power fishermen and you go to a lake were there are a lot of small fish were finesse tactics work better, my question is how do you adjust or do you even try to adjust.

Panel,

This is along the lines of the dead horse and East Coast BASS.

Would a concept of starting a whole new West Coast division of BASS, fishing western lakes, rivers, ect. say from AZ or Texas west. Keeping the current East Coast as it is and then qualifiers from each division come together to fish a Classic/Championship.

Do you think that team bass fishing would work. Not as it is in team fishing currently but whole teams. Multi person, sponsered teams fishing against other teams.

Say like the 4 person Ranger team, Stratos team, Diawa, and so on fishing against each other. Everyone competes and the winning teams get paid as a team.

Similar to other sports, Football, NASCAR, ect..

First question is for Skeet:
When using your electronics what do you look for first, and why? Is it the warmer water temp? or the breaklines looking for structure holding baitfish?

2nd question is for Dave:
What do you look for when targeting spots on Oroville and or Shasta in these winter months of JAN & FEB? Do you look in certain locations like bays and main lake points/cliffs looking for suspended fish?
Or do you start shallow even in the cooler months on main lake points and cuts tageting incoming water and shallow targets?

3rd is for DEE and Robert and Mike:
Stay in or out of the current in the Winter on the Delta.
I keep hearing different opinions and want these PRO's.
I think they might have a good idea.

Thanks,
Kap

Question for Skeet:
Concerning your new Berkley - Go Natural commercial. How much did you work out before taking on your first nude TV comercial?
HAR!.....I thought so!

Question for the Panel - Professional tournament fishing seems to be moving more and more from anglers earning their living from fishing to earning a living from product endorcements. What percentages of your time is spent working sponsorship related activities as opposed to fishing?

My question is for the entire panel.

Given the fact that B.A.S.S. has recently turned its back on the West and F.L.W. does not provide us a "Western Tour" please share your opinions of:

#1 Why, with all the outstanding fisheries and tournament anglers the West has to offer are we are faced with this unfortunate predicament?

#2 What can we do to change things for the future?

Question for Dee

Post by StogieMan »

please explain the Delta tides, specifically how to fish areas with current. I assume you choose a spot to fish based on a number of factors and current flow is probably one of those factors.
