If you only had 1 color jig and 1 trailer

Post by Ray L. »

If you only had 1 color jig to use what would it be for our southern lakes this includes from Cachuma, the San Diego lakes and also Martinez to Mead?
Only color not make.....
Mine would have to be brown and purple with a yamamoto #221 twin tail 5" grub

I'll be monitoring this post. We just had our butts handed to us at Lake Powell. The teams that "did the hand-out" were both throwing jigs. Mel and I, neither one, throw the dang things, but guess what? We're going to start! I've caught one fish at Havasu on a white Duh jig, and 1 at Gunlock Res. Utah, at night, on a black and blue, so my favorite would be somewhere in between.

Like I said, Ray, I'm watching this post. We are really Weak, when it comes to jigs. As far as the AC Pro Am? Yep! Our money is in. Now all we have to do is hope for rollers under 3 feet and maybe it will be enjoyable. Har!

Hey Murph....

Post by JohNNy Utah »

next time you're at Gunlock, try throwing any brown jig with brown super pork. Or a cinnamon black flake Yamamoto twin on a 3/8 oz football head. They're suckers for anything brown in that lake.

I agree with Ray. Brown and Purple works awesome in the desert. Here in the Northwest brown and cinnamon works really well.

Let me ask you then. Are you only useing the white jig to bed fish or are you useing it for what it was intended originally. Because it was really intended to be a swimming jig through grass. I know years ago that Bob Simmons was useing a white jig to win a bunch of tournaments at Havasu and he was swimming it in the river. I also use a white jig but not on bed fish. I like to swim it through tullies and also Grass. I use a single tail 5" yamamoto and sometimes a twin tail.

Yep Ray. Tis the season and I won't be/haven't been swimming jigs through grass...lol. I remember those Bob Simpson days though. He spanked us all good at Mead one year on those white jigs. If I remember correctly his 8-pounder? was caught on a white jig to win either the TOC or AB Classic.

I haven't been around for a few years Ray. I quit tournaments a few years ago. In fact, my Champ hasn't been in the water for almost a year now. Just too damn expensive to put the time in I used to. If you used to fish any of the ABA tourneys from 97-02 we probably met. Ask CJ, he and I were partners for a few years as well as roommates.
