Here's Your Chance! CDFW Emergency Meeting to Determine Covid Fishing Restriction

We've had a lot of comment here, now is your chance to weigh in with your opinion for CDFW

California Fish and Game Commission to Hold Emergency Meeting

The California Fish and Game Commission will remotely meet to discuss delegating temporary authority to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to delay, suspend or restrict sport or recreational fishing if the director of CDFW, in consultation with the president of the Commission, finds that such action is necessary to protect against the threat from COVID-19 based on state, federal, local, and tribal public health guidance and public safety needs.

When:Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.

Where:Via teleconference and webinar. Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed emergency regulation by calling (877) 402-9753 or (636) 651-3141; access code 832 4310. Webinar details are on the agenda.

More: The meeting agenda and documents are available on the Commission’s website at https://fgc.ca.gov/Meetings/2020

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission will discuss whether or not to temporarily grant authority to CDFW to decide whether to delay, restrict, or suspend sport or recreational fishing in order to prevent and mitigate public health risks that may arise when people travel for fishing trips or congregate while participating in available fishing opportunities. CDFW and the Commission have received requests from county representatives and local health authorities requesting delays to recreational fish openers such as the Eastern Sierra trout opener scheduled for April 25, 2020.

CDFW to potentially suspend sportfishing ...... and no restrictions from state on recreational boating?
So when we cant fish and every ski boat/wake boat has free access to the Delta, then we can really have something to complain about !!

What 99% of recreational fisherman in this state are doing does not increase the risk of transmission and doesn’t increase the risk of strain on the resources of rural counties.

Stopping people from accessing the outdoors with county wide shutdowns is not the answer and will continue to sow seeds of resentment.

This meeting will decide whether or not to give the CDFW temporary authority to make a decision on shutting down or delaying fishing (particularly big scheduled events like trout openers). There will not be an actual decision on such an action from this meeting, but I’m sure it will happen if the CDFW gets the power.
Fishing is not a matter of life or death.
It's more serious than that!

We all know the State of CA has never done anything for the safety of the people. Anyone that enjoys fishing, hunting, boating etc. is the enemy of the liberal. How can you shut down fishing and leave Lowes open? I have been fishing every weekend in So Cal and I am far safer outdoors than in. This is a tough pill to swallow because all that live here knows the outcome of the meeting before it takes place. Hope I am wrong on all of it.

This is a case of monkey see, monkey do!
Ca sold 1.6 million fishing licenses, stamps and other outdoor required permits in 2019 to the tune of $60.7 million Dollars.
I think Ca should have an "Outdoor Stimulus Package" and return our money since they feel we are uneducated to the extent that we cant be outside of our homes.

The DFG /DFW or whatever they call themselves would be having an emergency meeting to discuss being employed if their funding stopped.

Speaking of which, if they get this "power" and do what everyone believes these will do which is to eliminate our access to the lakes, parks, ocean, etc, wont these bureaucrats, their staff, the wardens, all be non-essential at that point and be out of work like the rest of us?

Don’t you guys see that guy in the river? That’s the problem. The picture above. He’s all by himself outdoors in the river. That most likely How the virus began.

You know what I think? It seems as if we have no fun police.
They want to ban anything they can when ever and however they can
No bbq. No burning in the fire place. No camping here. No dogs their. No bikes here. No fishing
Signs every place.
No 4x4. No ohv. No red sticker green sticker only. No 2 stroke outboard . No straws. Keep out. No jumping. No diving.
No walking here. No horses on this trail
No shooting. No lead. No smoking
No dogs at the lake. No more anything
The more rules and regulations they make the happier they are
Guys I know y’all think I am crazy. you younger folks for sure
But all those things I mentioned above we never even considered as a possible rule or regulation 25 30 years ago. dogs could go any where and it didn’t cost 5 bucks to bring Spike with ya

Example. Lake camanche
Use to be able to drive all around lake camanche
Even to the camanche dam on low water. Pull up and fish. 24 hours a day too. We use to night fish from the bed of a pickup truck.
Just drive right on the roads that are under water most of the time. It didn’t cost 25 dollars to fish there either. more like free.
The delta. You could get lost driving the levees. They didn’t have gates locked up. I could write a book on the places we could access in this state for free or next to nothing
But not a single sentence of new spots opened up

There are so many place we use to camp in the forest that they blocked off with boulders.
Why?? They are just pull outs off the old fire road with a little fire ring.
When is enough ENOUGH!!!!!!! When we are just standing in a 5 foot box jumping in a circle?
Us older guys are seeing our freedoms lost little at a time. It is the TRUE progressive.
Progressive Yeah progress to what?
Dictatorship?

Maybe this is not the time for a rant.
We are in a crisis. I do absolutely agree

But for the life of me you can bet your *** they are going to take more things away.

My point is they will use this crisis to make more rules and laws to limit our FREEDOM

Im pretty sure politicians know less than scientists. this is nuts. listen to this guy. “going outside stops the spread of a virus” staying inside prolongs it! thats why flu season always ends in spring. these flus all have patterns. and the only way to get thru it is with herd immunity.

Yes. Even the government is saying the lock down is to slow the outbreak down. Otherwise the hospitals would be overwhelmed
At the same tine they are NOT really telling us the same amount of cases will be

I'll continue to fish, it's that simple. Shift attention to the crank smokers congregating on the street and leave me and my bass boat alone.

Yes. Boat is a necessity these days due to all the access roads that are CLOSED
And I heard it before. It’s the people’s fault for littering. Don’t give me that
Let the prisoners clean it up. Bring back the chain gang

Their platform was overrun with too many participants and people not muting their phone connection. So a quality turn out I’d say. I’d imagine folks will be able to fish now for at least one more weekend.

First of all,the meeting has been postponed to next week. Sounds like they are getting calls from local officials worried about getting overrun with people. How about looking at what CDFW actually says on its website about what they are considering:

California Fish and Game Commission Emergency Meeting Will be Rescheduled for Next Week
April 9, 2020by kmacinty, posted in Fisheries, Fishing (Sport), Public comment period, Public Participation, Public Safety
Today’s emergency meeting of the Fish and Game Commission is being rescheduled. While the time and platform has yet to be determined, it will be delayed until next week.DCD5C837-ED22-4AF1-9CAD-C03AC2BB2B62

Commission President Eric Sklar and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Director Charlton H. Bonham made the following joint statement:

“We are very appreciative of the passion we heard from those that were able to join this morning’s call. It is clear that the call volume was overwhelming and the technology wasn’t ready. We acknowledge that this is a challenge as we attempt to navigate new technology for meetings. We are frustrated by what happened today and are looking for a remedy now. We understand that many members of the public and media were unable to join the call and because we also understand the importance to many of you, we need to ensure that you have an opportunity to provide input.

“We want to make sure you know that we have received a great deal of input from counties and tribes, and we are grateful for that. You can always make comment for the record at fgc@fgc.ca.gov.

“We also want to make it crystal clear that today’s proposed decision was not about banning fishing statewide or locally. We are not contemplating statewide closure. The decision is to help prepare us to work with counties and tribes to make those decisions based on their requests. We are working on a tailored and surgical approach based on local needs and knowledge. We have already received some of these requests. Today’s proposed action was an effort to become more nimble and ready to react when asked by a local entity to act.”

When the meeting is rescheduled, it will be posted on the Commission’s website, sent out via listserv and advised to media.

Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission was set to discuss whether or not to temporarily grant authority to CDFW to decide whether to delay, restrict, or suspend sport or recreational fishing in order to prevent and mitigate public health risks that may arise when people travel for fishing trips or congregate while participating in available fishing opportunities. CDFW and the Commission have received requests from county representatives and local health authorities requesting delays to sport or recreational fish openers such as the Eastern Sierra trout opener scheduled for April 25, 2020. Because of overwhelming call volume, the call will be rescheduled.

3 states today form a pack Ca. Oregon Washington St. And said they were not going to president Trump's order to open up the economy so people can get back too work and business can open
Governor Newsome and the two other governors are
not going to bow too political pressure from the President to fallow his instructions to reopen business and going back to work the Governor going to extend the stay at home orders. You'll know more on Weds.

I'm all for state's rights, if states want to shut down their economy while the federal govt wants them to open, stay shut down, but don't expect money from the feds to stay shut down.
