***Tournament Announcement***
May 23 and May 24 at the Delta - 2 Separate Tournaments
__________________________________
Before I make a formal announcement on behalf of NewJen Bass, I would like to start by sharing some information. I generally leave personal and business completely separate, but because we feel it has directly impacted some recent decisions, I feel inclined to share more than I normally would in our business correspondence.

Our 12 pound twin, Hudson Grace, was hospitalized on March 14th at 4 months old after a week of non-stop doctor’s appointments and the inability to get her symptoms, to include a severe fever, under control. She tested negative for Covid-19 and positive for Influenza B. They spent hours and hours along with 23 pokes and blown veins trying to get her started on IV fluids. By this time she was extremely lethargic, her body was limp, and she wasn’t even crying with each poke anymore. To be completely candid, there was a moment during that time that I saw her life slipping from her body. Through tears, I made a phone call to Newt (because he wasn’t allowed to be inside of the hospital with us)… I told him I didn’t think she was going to make it. After a few days in the hospital, she bounced back and is doing great (thank you, God!).

Fast forward to April 18th, I received a phone call from my mother. My 97 year old grandmother had loss of appetite and a concerning cough. She tested positive for Covid-19. Guess what? She’s doing fine. She was formally released from quarantine this past weekend and continuing to follow the Stay at Home order.

Influenza B (the “flu”) almost took our baby’s life and Covid-19 has left my 97 year old grandma happy and healthy. I understand not everyone has this result. I understand that everyone is affected differently. But is it not the same for EVERYTHING in life, including Covid-19? I am sharing all of this with you surely not because we need sympathy, but because I am about to announce that we are going to open NewJen back up for business and I want you to know that we have considered ALL sides of the circumstances and have personally been effected by Covid-19 .

If you are in the high risk category, we still advise you to do everything you can to stay healthy and follow all recommended precautions. If you have any symptoms, do not attend our tournaments. If you don’t feel comfortable coming at this time, we understand and will be looking forward to seeing you when you are. The tournament experience will be different than usual to ensure we are complying with all protocol. Tournament specific instructions will be posted on social media, the web site, and emailed. Please, PLEASE make sure your email address is added to the distribution list at the very bottom of the NewJenBass.com home page so that you don’t miss out on any updates, changes, or details.

Should you wish to participate in either or both of the upcoming tournaments at the Delta on May 23rd and 24th, you must register online. Although these will NOT be “points” tournaments, you MUST be a NewJen member to participate. New members are welcome. WE WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT ACCEPT ANY PAYMENT FOR ENTRY OR OPTIONS AT THE LAUNCH RAMP AND YOU WILL BE TURNED AWAY if you did NOT enter online. If any of the required protocol (that will be posted on the web site before registration is opened) is violated during the tournament, you will be disqualified and asked to leave immediately, with no refund/s.

We appreciate your support of a really hard decision and thank you in advance for your patience during the tournaments. It will be a GREAT WEEKEND OF FISHING and we assure you that we will have the necessary measures in place to keep everyone as safe as possible. Stay tuned for the open registration link which will be available by the end of the week.

Yes, out of Russo’s and $290 all in each day. Plus $50 for the NewJen membership for those who aren’t members. I asked on their Facebook post

According to their lengthy announcement, the only way to register and pay for either day is thru their website ...... which currently lists nothing. Since these events evidently just got added, and are not for points, dropping their $50 entry for non-members would have been a plus.

Plus 1

I was gonna fish it, but don’t want to pay an extra $50 to become a member. I’ve never fished a new Jen tournament, but have heard good things. If they dropped the $50 they might get more numbers and potentially more people to fish new Jen in the long run if they like the way it’s ran. Just my opinion.

Newjen bass understands both positions with regard to being for members only or being offered as an open. We scheduled these events with the intention of offering our members an opportunity to fish competitively with an organization that they are comfortable with during very uncomfortable times. We knew that participation numbers would be higher if it was an open but chose not to go that route. Although the Contra Costa health department would not “grant” nor “deny” permission for these events, they stated that we would not be cited, fined nor arrested for holding them. We anticipated resistance after releasing the announcement to hold the events and purposely have not opened registration online yet.

******** ATTENTION NEWJEN FAMILY ********

Unfortunately, the May 23rd and 24th events are being canceled. We are genuinely sorry for any inconvenience. All refunds have already been processed.

The divided world we currently live in is hard enough and without adding to it with fishing industry politics, I will say that NewJen Bass has very little support from within our industry, that is, with the exception of our amazing NewJen members and their families.

Other organizations continually reach out to the businesses who support us to make them feel uncomfortable for doing so. It then leaves us with no other choice but to cancel. We have no intentions of adding additional stress to the businesses who do support us.

With that being said...

To the Contra Costa Health Department & the Contra Costa Sheriff's department: THANK YOU for all of your time answering my endless questions, and mostly for all of YOUR SUPPORT of who we are and what we do for our anglers! We sure wish we would be seeing you next weekend. Stay safe, and again, THANK YOU and ALL OF THE 1ST RESPONDERS FOR ALL YOU DO!

To our NewJen Family: Hang in there. Stay positive. I assure you that our time normally spent on preparing for our tournaments and what we can offer our anglers will be spent on how we can get you all back to competing on the water with NewJen Bass as soon as humanly possible. We miss you all! Stay tuned for the updated 20200 schedule.

Hats off to New Jen and everyone who participates. Hope things go well and there’s a big turnout. Maybe this will inspire the other big clubs to get off their duffs and put in the work also for their membership.
