NOOB question: G Loomis GLX vs Dobyns

to all the OG out there which rod is more stiffer between these 2: G loomis GLX 953FPR or Dobyns 804CB?

I can't answer for the Loomis rod as I'm not familiar with it. The the DC 804CB is an 8 foot Mod Fast crankbait rod. You can go up in power to an 805CB or an 806CB with us if you need more power and a Mod action. I have lots of rods stiffer than 804 CB. If I can help, let me know. THX!!!!

Actually one of the few rods I have that isn't a loomis is the 804c. It is way ahead of the loomis rod I broke

. It is my favorite technique specific rod by far and also as a long time owner of Many Loomis rods I am no longer as big a fan as I was 30 years ago. As Shimano has taken it in a direction I cannot afford. My most recent warranty experience with them went like this: to bad we don't make that anymore here's an 8 foot back bouncing steelhead rod that matches it best. Totally useless but I paid them 125 dollars for the rod and am now selling it for cost to pay for what I needed to replace. I notice shimano is filling the price point I was used to seeing from loomis back in the day. I was severally disappointed when my first Dobyns arrived as it was damaged in shipping.....Hi's tackle had a new one in my hand in nothing flat. I should think that rod is now 10-12 years old or more and for an 8 foot rod that's hard to say. If you need stiffer go with 805 0r 806. I am stuck in SoCal and crank when it's paying off but nothing like I would be if I was north of here.

I’m sorry I didn’t specified actually I’m looking for something softer and a little longer rear grip than 804cb(7’11-8’0. 3/8-1oz rod) using it for striper mainly throwing a 3/8 jig head swimbait.

My 804cb is used more than any other crank bait rod I own.

You should seriously consider taking Gary up on his offer. More than once he has provided me with rod choices that fit my needs EXACTLY. I haven't been able to find any other company willing to have those conversations and offer that kind of customer service.

Thanks for additional info on what you'll be using the rod for and the bait size. It really helps with rod recommendations. I have several ideas for you. I have fished stripers in Cal Delta for many years with 3/8 and 1/2oz jig heads. My favorite rod for these is a 735C but you're asking for something longer and softer. My first choice would be the DC 764C. This rod is 7'6" 4 power but has a great tip. It's fast action but loads well too. It's just a great rod. If still looking for longer I have the 804C, but I don't believe it's what you're after. It's very fast and powerful. It's still rated as a 4 power but it loads very fast and fishes stronger than a 4 power. When you say softer I think of an 8 foot CB rod. You asked about the 804CB, but this rod is too light (I believe) for stripers. I'd suggest the 806CB or even the 805CB. These rods cast extremely well and have more power than 804CB. I figure you're after distance wanting an 8 footer that's softer. If you're not trying to cast a mile, I promise that 735C is awfully good on Stripers with 3/8oz jig head. Yell if I can help further.
