FG knot help

Hey ol salty sailors
I started tying the FG knot last fall. Its looks good. Twice it has broke off at the point where my leader (8# Yozuri Topknot) meets 30# berkley x5.
I think its happening from hitting the guides as I cast.. Or my first wraps are too tight, kinking the flouro.

I dont wrap loosely, my first 2 wraps always seem to cause a dimple or crease until I get it going in the right direction. Tips appreciated thanks

I would suggest going to Bloodydecks site and asking the same question. .use the search feature too... the amount of info on knots is very helpful and there are a lot of very knowledgeable and helpful people...good luck

Thought i would share what works for me.

First off, dont tighten the first wraps too tight, it should be uniform across the knot, it works like a finger trap, so if it's too tight in the beginning it will not be even resulting in knot slippage. Keep equal tension, when you tighten at the end of the wraps is when you wanna go tight.

Search youtube for FG knot with Rizzuto finish.
I haven't had a failure since then.

It may also be your line, 30lb braid to 8lb is excessive.
I use 10 or 15lb braid to my finesse applications such as 4-8 lb

This is 20# braid to 12lb FC

Notice how the wraps are uniform, the only bulge is the finishing knot, and its not much bigger.

Hope this helps!
