Idaho Bass Fishing

Post by BoiseBass »

I live on Boise, Idaho and fish all the local lakes and Tournaments. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that lives and bass fishes in Idaho

I live in Nocal and my wifes dad lives in Coeur D alene. I have fished there- Hayden,Fernan and Coeur D alene and it is great. I have never had my boat (we fly) but pack my float tube and gear. The smallmouth fishing in Coeur D alene is off the hook! There is this seaplane dock by the resort and I have caught fattie smallies on deep pigs up to 4.75 lb. there. In the middle of the day. 2 lbers easy on soft plastics while the tourist go wild. Newman lake on the Wash./Id border has some great topwater action by the pads. And don't get me going on the fly fishing. You just drive up to the Coeur D alene River, chuck out a Elk hair caddis and it is Cutthroat on just like that. I would live there if it wasn't for the winters.

Boise Bass, I don't live in Boise but my folks live very very close to Lucky Peak Reservoir. They moved out there about 2 years ago. Do you get to fish on Lucky Peak any? Next time I am out that way to visit my folks I might need a smallie fix :). BTW do you know George Roth? Very nice guy and he lives in Weiser, ID just outside of Boise.

Boise Bass
My sister just moved to Hayden. We are planing a visit up there. Looks like there are many lakes in the area but I would not have thought they were bassy. I will probably not take my boat when I go. My nephew is going to take me out in his tin boat. Do you primaraly fish for smallies are are there large mouth avaialble? What should I consider taking for lures? We are going to wait till the roads and weather clears. May or June. Really looking forward to it.

I was told by many that the bass fishing in Northern Idaho wasn't very good. I went up there to the Spirit Lake area last summer. I hauled my boat with me just in case. Not to many bass boats up in that area and had a small crowd around my boat when I was launching out on the Pend Oreille River near Oldtown. Anyway, my father in-law and I headed out and I was shocked! The bass fishing was GREAT! I flipped senkos all day and killed them. Good size bass too (I have pictures). Can't catch bass here worth a beans but up there I kicked the sh*t out of them. You should of seen my father in-laws face when I release the first one that weighed about 4 pounds! LOL I forgot to tell him that I "catch and release". Anyway...Not many people up there fish for bass but they are there! Go get'm!

As for living up there.....I'm heading up there myself just as soon as I can (2-3 years). Currently looking for property.

Hayden and Couer D'alene have excellent largemouth and smallmouth. Spring tournaments on CDA usually bring in a few 20-25lb bags of largemouth, same with the Pend Oreille River. I usually catch both species pretty good on jerkbaits, topwater in the summer and drop-shot anytime. The lakes are full of trout, so don't be afraid to throw swimbaits, just remember that both lakes have 30+lb Pike in them. My profile pic is a 7.5lb bass I caught on a jig on Coeur D'alene from shore last Oct. The fishing is just about get really good. I can't wait, it was a long winter!

Swimbaits! I just thought of something funny. While I was up there I was looking for some and all the sporting goods stores had no idea what I was talking about! LOL I searched everywhere too. I bet they know about them now.

Lucky Peak has some nice bass but there is thousands of Ski boats and jet ski's. Lake Lowell about 15 minutes from Boise has Largemouth and some smallmouths but about a hour one way we have CJ Strike and it has big smallies and largemounth over 7lbs and then a hour and a half the other way there is Brownlee and the smallies are big and some big largemouth for Idaho.
Let me know when your in town i'm always looking for someone to take fishing I just bought a new bass boat

Boise, When I lived in Twin Falls, I used to fish CJ and Anderson Dam a lot. The smallmouth were pretty good at Anderson. I stuck a Smallmouth at CJ once that I guarantee would have broken the state record. It was easily 9#, lost it when I went to boat it.

Yes, it's true!! I was in a bait shop at Coeur d'Alene about 4 years ago and on the wall - by itself - was a 10 INCH RAINBOW TROUT Castaic lure!!! I don't know what it was doing there, but for 11 bucks - it's not there anymore!!! I fished the lake just east of town - Fernan or something like that. We caught lots of bass one evening, but all small largemouth. Great looking structure!
