WHICH WOULD BE MOST FISHABLE AND THE BEST FOR THE MONEY IF ALL WERE THE SAME PRICE AND MONEY WAS NOT THE ISSUE

The 488 was the best 20ft boat Ranger ever built, before the 520VX...

If I was going to buy a used boat you couldn't go wrong with the 488..

Every Pro I've every talked to hated to trade theirs in...best fishing deck out there...Stable and easy to fish out of..

Now I have a 520VX and it will leave my driveway when they bury me...Unless they improve the Z21, because the Z's I have been in don't compare to the 520VX, but youdidn't ask about the 520...hehe

The 392V is too narrow and tends to wobble with two guys fishing..

The 462V is a great delta boat, unless the waves come up, because you can run in skinny water...

The 390V is too short and narrow...when I fished in one my back hurt for days after..just like the old Champions....

good luck..

I like my 492VS, A little bigger than the 488. It handles rough water and fishes like a dream. I believe you cant go wrong with a larger boat.

The "GREENE MACHINE"..........

Post by Hardshell »

is a 1998 488VS. On it's second engine, 2005 200 Opti, after at least 5 rebuilds on the ol' EFI, 4th TM, others worn completly out and 3rd set of electronics. I've reupholstered the seats and plan on carpet this summer. I keep telling the better half I'm going to sell her and buy a new one but as you can see I just can't bring myself to do it, "TOO MUCH HISTORY"!!!!!!!!!!

Great Boat!

Jigs, I picked up my '97 492VS last January in Idaho. I thought I got a pretty good deal ($15K) Unfortunately I lost the powerhead in June. Had Eric Simon at Simon Motorsports build it into a 335HP. I love the way the boat performs. Hole Shot, Throw you back in the seat mid Range and pretty decent top end (71+GPS). Waiting to put a Jackplate on it and try a few other props. Should see 75+ when I'm done 8)

462 ?

Post by SRV »

I've been looking for an affordable Ranger in the 18 ft class (garage). Is the 462 my choice, or, should I look for an R class boat.

Hey Jigs, what happened to that 462 you had posted ?

garage boat 18 to 19ft size is good. My son's both have nitro's 19ft but the trailer's have swing away tongue's and fit in caticorner in garage. My 462VS stuck out 3ft. trailer did not have detach tongue or swing away type. Yes i sold the 462VS TO Gentleman in Bay Area and we are delivering it to Ladd's Marina tuesday for him.

Go with a 300 series boat they are great, we used to own one. 350, 360. 370 series 17' 10" Ranger's ours always fit in our garage corner to corner. great boats !!

Jigs, I have a 93 393V with a 94 200 hp Mariner EFI, AWSOME boat. All the boats you mentioned have EXACTLY the same beam of 90", the only differance is body style, weight and length. All will handle rough water great, and should run 65 mph +. They will all be very stable fishing platforms, I would go with whichever one is in the best shape with the least hours on the motor. I love my boat, 520s can pull away from me, but just barely and I've run in the same nasty weather as my brother in his 520 on Clear Lake, and I do mean NASTY. They're all good choices, they're all Rangers!
I fish because I CAN!!

Well thanks you. The point of this is , I am selling my 462vs, because I do want larger a little more fishable.
1. seems the dual consol gets in the way kinda. nice for the non boater, but in the way.
my two cohices and in our price range are older 392v and 488vs. we think we are going with the 488vs. seems to be a little heavier and longer with a 200. speed means nothing to us, but fishable means everything, and comfort.

thank you
