Dee Thomas

Post by Dan Daniel »

All, it is with great sadness that I let all of you that Dee Thomas passed away this evening.

He had a fall last week but was okay from that, he was also sick this week and went into the hospital on Saturday afternoon.

Tonight, his heart gave out twice and they brought him back, shortly thereafter he passed away. He is now with Terry and in God's hands.

We will miss you my friend.

Sad news indeed. I too loved that guy. Spent a year or two on the road with him. What a fisherman. What a roommate. God Speed Dee Thomas. I'll miss you.

We all owe him a debt of gratitude. As The Godfather of flipping he opened the doors to how a lot of us fish these days. Tule Dipping (as it was once called)will remain with us for many years if not forever. He told the best stories when he came into the bait shop and if he wasn’t making fun of u he didn’t like u! Lol
He always made fun of my bulldog -who goes everywhere with me -and would say -why did I get such ugly dog! And then he would kid and say : well u know dogs take after their owners!!!
We will all miss u Mr. Thomas-as I would call him cause I /we all respected him so much!
RIP -he will be missed by all that knew him!

RIP in peace Mr Thomas, I was lucky enough to fish against Dee for over 25 years on the Delta he was the master intimidator that's for sure. He was a legend in this sport, and a well deserved hall a famer. We both made it to the Redman all-American back 1996 on the Arkansas River. I had so many people come up to me there and ask me is that the guy who invented flipping!!!! And I said yes sir it is. There were so many things about Dee that made him a one of a kind, but that laugh of his took the cake for sure. I hope he's up there catching 5 pounders on every flip!!

Legend, Innovator, Competitor, Teacher, Comedian, ----- The King of the Delta. So many ways to describe Dee. We are fortunate to have him among us for so long. I think everyone has some Dee Thomas stories to tell. God Bless him and his family. RIP Mr. Thomas

I am so sad to hear of Dee's passing. I became friends with Dee in 1971 after meeting him on Clear Lake, when all he was fishing with was a 12ft boat and a 12ft Fenwick surf rod blank with a piece of 80# braided line running thru it with a piece of 20# mono leader tied on with his jig, which was known as Tule Dipping. I asked Dee if he would show me how to make jigs, he gave me his number. Shortly after we were drinking beer and making jigs. Spent many days in his garage and fishing together. RIP my friend. Dee changed my life. Nobody has had a greater impact on me than him. He was like a father to me. I’m not the only one. You all know who you are. I consider you my brothers. Dee’s service is going to be like old home week. I hope you all can make it.
