That Moon plays Havoc with me on Windy Wednesday Night

Post by Fast Eddie »

Ah, Windy Wednesday Nights. Fun time by most. But for me and my partner the Jinx is in. Last night as that big moon is close to rising, we're fishing in Franks. I'm throwing a rattle trap with #5 round bends, hooking dinks left and right. About 6pm I catch a keeper, then another about 2 lbs. While trying to get the hook out, the lower hook on the treble impales itself deeply into my left hand first finger knuckle. Hurts like the dickens, the fish is floppin driving the hook deeper. Finally get the fish off (boy those gamakatsu's are sticky) so now on to the removal. So my partner gets a piece of braid and we loop the braid around the shank to the bend. I then press down on the shank, and I tell my partner who is being extremely fearful of hurting me more to yank the braid. (Caution.......if you are extremely squeamish stop reading here :D ) Well that hook pops right out just like it's supposed to. I can see the lure flying through the air in slo motion and the front hook impales itself to the bend into my right hand ring finger. Right in the middle where your fingerprint forms a circle. The way its impaled the shank folds over my finger tip, so there's no way you can press the shank down onto a surface of the finger. We're near Russos and we travel over to there, but no one is there to help. OK what to do. My medical knowledge from being in the service comes into play. So my partner gets another piece of braid and we go to the picnic table. After removing the other hook by cutting the snap ring (which by the way is very painful) I wrap the braid around the shank place my hand flat on the table. My partner places the second piece of braid over the eye of the hook and pulls it down . Because of the angle I have to pull the popping braid myself. Wait, maybe I should call 911 and go to a hospital starts going through my mind, but soon is quashed because How would I get back to Ladds?
OK 1, 2,3 yank. A shooting pain kinda like a jolt runs through my body, but that sucker pops out and onto the table. Ting ting I hear and see the treble with no chunks of meat on it. Look at my finger, hardly any blood. Pain quickly subsides. Next some neosporin and band aids and back to fishin.
So now it's getting close to weigh in time. We have a little over 9 lbs. No way, where are all the bigger fish? Where did we go wrong. Dump our fish. So as that big moon rises in the east, so we head east back to Ladds. (our day wasn't apparently as bad as we thought as on the way back we saw on of the other competitors being towed) Put the boat on the trailer and head for the barn. When I get home the right ring finger tip is black and swollen as I change the bandage. The other is just swollen. Funny thing is I usually wear gloves in my hands and had I been wearing them we would have had to cut them into pieces. I shiver at the thought. Is it me or is someone trying to tell me something.
Anyway, Here are the top 6 winning weights for WWN
1. 21.37
2. 21.30
3. 20.76
4. 18.64
5. 18.40
6. 18.00
BF 9.20

Oh well, try again next week.

Ouch, but what a story! It made my butt hole pucker! :)
Fish bite twice a day - half hour before I get there and half hour after I leave.
