Anyone else excited about spring?

Post by biteme »

Looks like a lot of lakes will see full pools. Going to be nice to fish in the trees! Can't wait!

While my lake won't be filled if what happened, happens 5 more times it did go up about 15 feet. We had 40 inches of rain in Matilija ridge which is our main source of watershed but somehow it missed going where it was needed again. It just dawned on me yesterday that I need to totally shift gears and empty 70 % of my tackle out of my boat for what I am about to start fishing as soon as we are open. That is like going from fishing a glass fish tank full of clear water with one or two rocks in it to fishing Clear Lake when it's flooding. We have a ring of growth from years of drought and mishaps with filling the lake at 29% and above and that's where I need to be proficient in tackle and presentations now as the jungle is in the water now. That will at least get the fish I manage to hook through and out of the jungle. I am very excited about my prospects as it is one of my favorite ways to catch fish....Very very shallow..............

Watch out for unexpected things in/on the water as it can be dangerous out there.

Yeah fish shallow for the most part and bumped a couple rocks last year. They'll still be there this year even with the levels up. I just bought two new PP blades to fix that issue.

My main lake has crazy winds and when the TM batteries go its a race to keep her off the rocks.

Anyway, hope ya get em!

Again, I'm not chaining up the trailer. The lakes around me are frozen and there's walls of snow. It's just something I have to deal with living up here.

It's actually been good for me. Have a lot of hobbies and it let's me reset for spring. Mod the boat a bit. Get all my gear sorted. It works for me.

Agree w Dave. I’ve seen my expectations of insane flipping, blades etc. after a huge lake rise get bashed in the past when this has happened. It’ll take the fish at Cachuma for example (where it came up over 50’) a while to redistribute. Prespawn is hands down my favorite time to fish. I’ll be up on the bank that’s for sure. Hell, I’ll be pitching all day. Catching? Different story. We’ll see. I hope I’m wrong. Either way so glad to leave the barren, no cover, silty *** lake bottom style fishing behind…. Good years ahead folks
