I was thinking the same thing Dan.... wonder what kind of nets they use and what the kill rate will be..We seen at the last big tournament up there the big ones are ready to go shallow. If I read that right the Indians are doing this???? I hope DFW holds someone accountable to proper release of ALL not targeted fish.

At a time that the baitfish/bass/ and carp are all using the same water. Not a rocket surgeon but maybe you'd score just as big and not waste an ecosystem buy doing this at a different time of year and releasing irradiated mules for the carp to spawn with to decrease the population.Over the long run you'd win. How is it this was not known until it's inception?

It’s common knowledge that certain groups want ALL non native fish species eradicated from Clear Lake due to the current status of the Clear Lake Hitch population ! it doesn’t take a degree in fisheries biology to know a seine net does not discriminate on what it catches and kills !

Evidently the native Clear Lake Hitch carries more weight than Carp. If Carp are hurting the Hitch population, Bass must be destroying it.

People netted Clearlake for years. Used to have a big market for Black Fish. There are way more big Catfish eating the Hitch than Bass. Don’t forget the Pelicans and Grebes. Hopefully it’s not to kill the Bass.

Apparently you need a degree in fisheries biology to know what a seine net is, why its used, and what exactly it accomplishes. Id suggest you research the differences between a gill net and a boat set seine, and why one is being used over the other. You may want to modify your response accordingly.

Seine fishing (or seine-haul fishing; /seɪn/ SAYN) is a method of fishing that employs a surrounding net, called a seine, that hangs vertically in the water with its bottom edge held down by weights and its top edge buoyed by floats. Seine nets can be deployed from the shore as a beach seine, or from a boat.

Boats deploying seine nets are known as seiners. Two main types of seine net are deployed from seiners: purse seines and Danish seines. A seine differs from a gillnet, in that a seine encloses fish, where a gillnet directly snares fish.

Does not Fish & Game get the majority of thier funding from the sales of hunting and fishing license fees?

I ask because the article states the funding for this fish netting project comes from them.
Not only is this ironic but to me it seems to violate the public trust.

So,,,,,why would they be “net” fishing for carp in the locations they are, when they are? The carp are not there yet! How bout May or June if that’s what you really want to accomplish?

CDFW is not an outdoorsman’s friend imho. Subservient to special interest donors? Then again neither is any other entity, whether it’s the tribes, County of Lake or any operator that does business with any of them. This is all about the grant monies CDFW made available, and an opportunity to do what they ultimately wish to accomplish, remove Mr. Largie….Again, all my opinion.

Shame on CDFW, the county, water resources, lake bed management, and tribes. Where were y’all when the creek mouths were high and dry and y’all could have really made a difference relative to the “hitch” by clearing the creek mouths while they were? Didn’t care that much? Apparently.

Watched them bring in a big net on a video yesterday. Several carp and only a few Bass. They release the bass but one was belly up.
