ABA Casitas Results for the 8-5-23 night tournament
We had 10 teams and 0 fish weighed in 1st time in ABA history since 1983 over 7,000+ tournaments ran ( some info was lost for the very early years)
On the other side of things all the money from this event will roll over to the next tournament 9-9-23. So yes you can fish 1 event and win 2 events worth in winnings
This is a sundowner tournament 2pm-8pm
All in is $320 and $40 membership per angler (if you need it)
We are well over the 10 boats from last event should make for a great pay out
Any questions give me a call Jason Hemminger 805-479-1058

I thought 3 lbs would be a record for a long time and only lasted a few weeks.
Can’t get lower then Zero, new all time low tournament record can only be tied😎

Wow. That’s as bad as it gets. Anyone remember another tourney that went 0.0? I don’t. Casitas currently looks like the worst tourney lake in CA, maybe the US. Combine that with their ridiculous quagga protocol, and well…annual passes anyone?

What is truly needed is to have DFG electro shock the old girl to see just wtf happened here. I suppose it's possible that everyone fishing here is barking up the wrong tree but in the back of my mind I keep hearing the old " Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. adage But in reality I don't think it is the case. If the lake fills to full pool next year and with the brewing El Nino I'm betting it does. If the fishing isn't bad now it's really going to be bad in the future. Maybe find out from someone testing the water that in fact the fire retardant is or is not the factor behind the demise of Casitas. Maybe jump start the recovery process by introducing some healthy fish in a re stocking of the viable reproducing sized fish....None of this will happen... so I'll just keep fishing and putting in my reports...I'm due for another report but it would be a paste job from my last trip 5weeks ago as nothing as of yet has changed. It might as well have taken a direct hit by an atom bomb the way things are going now.

What is surprising the other sunfish are doing well and from what Rip said a good recruitment of bass fry occurred. Haven’t fished Casitas for a few years don’t have 1st knowledge.
How are the Threadfin Shad doing?
The aerator at the dam is it on? Without it there could be multiple thermocline trapping fish deeper then they should be.
The guys with FSS and Live Scope should be able to find bass.
Electro Shock survey is needed for sure.

When this happened at Cachuma their weren't dead fish all over. They just flat disappeared for 10 years. The panfish had a heyday without the predators for years as they were(seemingly) not affected. Here I have seen up to 3 pound trout dead on the bank and on the surface lately. Did a ten try to eat it and it kicked from the stuggle??? Not a mark on the three pound trout two days ago fresh dead and floating.
My friends at Clear Lake have noticed that all the weed growth that was in front of Kelsyville right up to within inches of the surface is flat *** gone. It was up to the surface 3 months ago and they were drooling over the prospects but it all died. The County has not sprayed this year for weeds. They have a whole division of county employees that spray. Zero..What kills hydrilla? We think the fire retardant has come in via the creeks in the north end. It burned like hell a few years back...drought to historic levels and now the weeds are gone after all the run off,,,hard to say. but if I had the electronics these new boats have I could maybe guess about how many are off shore...
Think about this though...Shad aren't getting bit for the Ojai angler....NOBODY is able to find one single legal fish...not one. Enough said on this subject. I swear I'm with in striking distance of my eureka moment here...Only my next trip will tell. . I am working pretty hard on this 8 10 hour blanks in a row no matter the time of day. I just go home and regroup and go with my guesses on the next trip.

That Sucks about Casitas - i fished my first club tournament there and watched Gerry M crack a teener on a down shoot with a robot worm called oxtard red glitter or something. Some fond memories up there for sure, sad to hear its all but done and that this is exactly what the lake residents have wanted a private lake with no fishing boats.

As for Kellsyville, while not as thick as other years that grass is definatly there and close to the surface -this has more to do with the high water and cooler then average summer this year - it's even got the fish confused as to what they "should" be doing :D   Clear Lake is kicking out monster bags and fish this year.

Well, Tropical storm in Baja! An 1 1/2 inch of rain predicted for Ojai. A true deluge. The question is, will the diversion dan allow water to the lake. if it is a deluge and flood volume it would really impact water levels. I'm hoping!

It’s not looking like we’re going to get the amount of rain that was predicted. I hope I’m wrong. The real question is, has anyone caught a fish from Casitas lately? It’s been awhile since I’ve been on the water and I’m starting to get the itch…
