New Water.....same result....WWN 12

Post by Fast Eddie »

I should start with a Thank You to all the guys who responded to the "Where to Stay at Pedro post. Most were booked and there is no way I'm leaving the boat "across the street" with no power.......so Angels Camp it is.

Why Don Pedro you may ask? Well Josh and I have decided to get off the Delta, join a few other WWN guys and fish Christian Bass. The first tournament is Sept. 21. Josh is in the middle of harvest so I'm a bachelor for number 1, Being old and rotund its getting harder to climb over the electronics to hook the boat up when exiting the water and launching, so I dropped the dough on a new set of Boat EFX steps. When ordering the site asks about the year and make of your boat. Problem #1. Gone Fishing sold me a 2012 vessel on a 2022 EZ load trailer. It came from the factory that way, After researching a few videos on you tube, I called them and spoke to a very helpful man named Austin. He asked for pictures, so I sent him some. The installation looks pretty easy, but this is Fast Eddie with a proverbial black cloud over his head, so if it can go wrong it will go wrong. (anyone interested in making a video of FE doing the install with the wife? ) Anyway I ordered the 4 step version as well as their "Booma step: for the tongue. Right after ordering I receive an email from the company that says it can take up to 2 1/2 weeks to make them. Now I believe Austin knew I was in a hurry and 2 days later they're shipping. Should be here by next Wed. Whoopee! I know what I'll be doing next Friday.
So in preparation for Pedro (Boy Scout Motto......"BE PREPARED") I decide to drop more dough on some japanese deep diving crankbaits. By deep diving I mean 30' with 14lb test (I'll use 12 or 10) from "The Hook Up Tackle" (Thanks Ben)
Oh yeah and while searching for my 30+ year old worms for Pedro, I run across a Cul M Rite, a color selector, Quantum "high speed reels" in 5 - 1 gear ratio, and swim baits, jigs and all kinds of stuff. (out of sight out of mind  ) Now this is where it gets difficult. You have a plan set as to what to do in prefish, but now your head starts playing games with you because of all the stuff you found. You're thinkin "but what if I do this, or maybe I should try" that and before long your entire game plan is a mumbo jumbo of fishing stuff in your head. Game plan? What game plan? Did I have a Game plan? Remember KISS, but in my head I could Kiss this and Kiss that and..........right back to what was I going to do? Well the dilemma continues.....at least the lodging is set.
So on to WWN, (rumor has it that Rob from the Basshole had 29lbs last night, Congrats) there appears to be a drop in attendance, but it is after all the next to the last tournament. The championship should be next Wednesday. After loading Josh's boat the guy next to us comes over and asks if we've seen one of these, and in his hand is the most real looking mouse bait I've seen. He has it tied to a spinning rod and is a miniature version of a wake bait. The gentleman's name is Randy McGee, and not since Jeremy from Black dog have I seen such beautiful baits. If you want some custom painting done, I think he'd be a solid choice.
With that in mind, Josh and I decide to blow off our usual pattern and look for new water. By new water I mean we start at the meat wall. (Now according to last weeks post "5 year research", there should be a ton of bass there, well,......if they were there, they weren't hungry) so off to a canal near the ship yards. As we traverse the canal, Josh gets a 2 lbr on a chb, a little while later I miss a senko fish, but a short time later I pick one up over 2 on the senko. Nothing for the next hour. The water looks right , so I ask Josh if he has a buzz bait tied on? He tiles one on and we start catching a few here and there. (on a side note I cannot believe the amount of homeless camped out on the riverbank. One guy has a set up to rival the size of my house. They have a raft and bots (that's Canadian for boats  ) and well I digress. Anyway Josh and I wind up with a little over 12 lbs. and knowing that's not enough we dump em and head to the dock.
Congrats to Tyler and Clay with a 9 lb kicker and 25.99 to take the win. Took 16.33 to get paid. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Phil and Arron in 3rd with a 8.27 kicker and Mike and Firuz in 5th
Next week is the TOC I believe and that's where Josh and I need to shine. Fingers crossed

I can relate to the "Round" problem !! Being 77 and a little bit "Round", I purchased the Boat 2 Trailer and now I never have to get out or the seat when loading !! Well, unless I'm by myself, and even that is a game changer !! With my partner, we can be loaded and pulling up in less than 10 sec !! A great investment for sure !!!!

Ed

Was that a typo? I am not sure how you can get a 2012 boat on a 2022 trailer from the factory. We don't normally keep them back there for 10 years.......

Eddie, while searching for your 30+ year old Pedro worms, did you run across any purple with silver flake 4” curled tail ringworms? We whacked em pretty good back in the day on those

Oops......., Thanks Kent, sometimes the left finger doesn't know what the right finger is doing. That would be 2021. At my age I'm just happy all the numbers are there. :)
