Switching to Lithium

Post by mheuby »

I'm finally making the switch over to Lithium batteries and I have a few questions on charging maybe some of you can help with. Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated

What brand and model charger to use.

I've heard that leaving them hooked up on the charger for a maintaining charge is not recommended.

If that is the case, are you running 2 chargers one for the lithium's and one for cranking

I switched to Lithium for my 24v Trolling Motor and my electronics. Make sure to get ones that have a Bluetooth connection so that you can check the SOC, State Of Charge, on your phone. I got mine off of Amazon for $270, 12v 100ah. Then I bought a Minkota PCL460 for my charger. You can set each bank for what kind of battery it is. I still run an AGM for my starting battery. I charge after each use, then unplug them the next day. They max out a 99% and will hold at that for a long time !! Their supposed to give 5000 charges, which equates to 13.7 years if you charge them every day, lol !! I fished Clear Lake for 3 days and never plugged in and still had 68% left !! I dropped 100# on the switch out and didn't loose any top end and increased my hole shot !!

I had problems with my Ranger charger. Talked with my friend Jay Liu (Trolling motor guy). He recommended NOCO Genius Pro 4 bank. I have not had a problem since. I have 3 Tracker Lithium's and 1 Interstate AGM. You can separately change settings (lithium or Gel or AGM) I'm on 3rd year with no problem. Stays plugged in to maintain. The only worry that would cause me concern, would be improper hook up and fire from overheating.

Thanks for the info, guys. Going with 3 100hr and Noco charger. Talked with the battery manufacture and they suggested to unplug after full charge
