Mobile Mercury mechanic needed

Post by Webbfish »

Can anybody recommend a mobile mechanic. I have a 2001 mercury OptiMax. I need new seals in the piston on the trim motor and dealerships won’t touch it.

Orange County area

Anglers was my first call. Great guys!

I need work done dealers wont do on the piston for my trim. Leaking. Dealers will only replace entire assembly and that part alone is $2,250

Years ago Boatmasters attempted to rebuild the tilt/trim unit on my Evinrude. It didn’t work out so they didn’t charge me anything. They told me a new unit is $2,000 and they had a good used one for $500. Without hesitation I said do it. It worked great and was still working great when I sold the boat four years later.

The mechanic I know says they don't rebuild trim units because half the time it doesn't work. Buy a seal kit and check out some Youtube videos or you can buy a used unit from ebay and pay to have someone put it on.

Yea a few guys on youtube are doing them. Reason I am trying to go around not buying a brand new assembly for 2,500. I just don't want to try and tackle the job.

When my tilt\ trim assembly went out on my Evinrude i ordered a used one from "JohnnyRude" on Ebay - he bench tests all parts and had a 60 day return policy. Worked great and wasnt hard to replace, i just needed some paint to paint it as it was white and mine was rude blue.
