The shoe dropped right on my head........Reg season WWN #7

Post by Fast Eddie »

Did you know WWN has a Facebook Page? I just found out. It's Windy Wednesday Nighters Check it out.
It all began last week when Richard and Gerry took the last check from me by .02, spoiling my debut with Stickbait. Then on Tues. I ask Stick if he fished Monday night and he said they had 17+ and was beaten out by Josh and his boy. This makes 2 in a row for Josh........(was I not listening to Josh? ) but congratulations are in order. Josh tells me his son spent the 1st place money on a new rig to which he broke it in with a 6lbr. Nice Job Gordon.
Anyway, Stick is texting me from the ocean where he's rock and Halibut fishing. Cool. He lets me know he'll bring me some fresh fish on Wed. Great.
The trip to Ladds was uneventful except for the fact that half (or what appeared to be half) of the gas pimps were out of order at Discovery Bay. After icing up and leaving a young lady in a new Black Mercedes, yells at me about how much she likes the colors of my Ranger. I smile and thank her and head to Ladd's.
Arriving I'm boat #4, which is good and to make things better the "Bearded One" and Pop's left me the inside shady side. Thank You.
Joining the Pow Wow, there's a discussion about custom painting lures which morphs into several side discussions. I inquire about HDS electronics expertise and Caleb and Pops both volunteer to see what's up. So, it began when I removed the electronics from the Range while the lower unit was at C&C. Thinking I was smart, I photographed (guess they're called images now no longer photographs   ) how the hook ups were done. I used to use the 9 as a 2D and down imaging screen, and the 12 a dedicated active target. I had Greg make a modification while the boat was there to allow both units access to the 3n1 on the trolling motor, so I could use either screen. Worked great, until I took them off. Well long story short, after reinstalling I couldn't get 2D on the 9. On the sonor side it read a white screen with colored lines at the top and 250 ft depth, on the other side of the split the map worked fine. Not being a computer guy, messing with menu's is not my forte'' Caleb thought he had it, but on the water the same screen. Thanks to Both He and Pops for trying. So now for the second week in a row I'm blind up front, I like ledges. :D
Sick shows up and delivers fresh fish in a cooler with Ice and salt. (Salt keeps the ice colder, or so I've been told.) Stick loads the boat and we discuss where we should go. Launch and take off uneventful. As we near Bullfrog, a pleasure boat os pulling a tube zig zagging and as I hit the wake, up I go and whoosh off goes my "Lucky" Brown Ranger hat. We flip a Youee and spend 10 minutes trying to find the hat. No luck. Does Eddie have a spare in the boat? Noooooooooo! So now I have to struggle with the sun in my eyes while target casting and in the breeze. (On a side note I went to my barbers only to find out hey are closed for renovations. My hair is getting longer and in my eyes, and after years of riding motorcycles with no helmet and long hair I know what tangles are all about. Not long enough or cut right to wear a pony tail, but just enough to be a bother.) Anyway first stop produces 1 keeper about 1 1/2 lbs, Spot 2 another 2lbr. then a third. Spot 3 another 2 1/2 lbr. Finally in spot 4 we get one about 3, so that makes five, I better weigh em. So I pull out "Bubba" and #1 says 1.65, #2 says EXTREMELY LOW BATTERY and shuts off.   . OK no worries I have spare batteries here. after about a 15 minute search through the glove box (Ranger Boats have a glove box so deep you could place a small person in there   ) and storage between the seats, I come to realise that I must have remove the spare batteries. Great another D_A move on my part.
Ok so the drive back was something as NO hat and into the sun, Thank God for the mapping. Approaching swithchback corners with a blinding sun is something. Even Stick was shading his eyes and he had a hat!
We decided to fish the sailboat harbor back up towards Ladd's . No mind you it's like *pm with and *:50 weigh in and there must have been 10 - 15 boats in the area fishing. Dumped the fish while waiting for Stick and the trailer.
Congratulations to Phil and Aaron, especially on they're consistency. Question is How do You go from 12lbs on Monday to 25lbs on Wednesday. Anyway Congats to all who cashed. 5 20+lbs bags. That's the Delta
Here's hoping things get better.
