Stick knew I was down so he took me halibut fishing on Friday. I hadn't been to sea in years. Off we went to the North Bar with Danny Peluso and the skipper Charlie. Charlie has a beautiful 28ft Duckworth with twin 250 Yammies. We each caught one and Danny hooked a Bat Wray which took him for a ride. The one thing I did notice at the bait receiver was that etiquette is the same as bass fishing. Aggressive and all about me. Anyway onto WWN.
Thinkin I was going to be smart I left the abode at 07:30, pick up the boat and now the usual stop at Discovery Bay Safeway. As I'm going in to get ice at the kiosk, an older woman is just behind me. (now I'm not sure how old she was, she was probably younger than me, but definitely a senior) So being the old school guy, I hold the door for her, and she says "Thank You" I say "yes ma'am" when she spins around a looks at me with a smile and says "That's Miss!" Jeez, she says you make it sound like my Mother." She asks the clerk if they have ice for her coffee she's getting and he responds NO. So, I've paid for my bag and half wat back to the boat I decide that I'd offer her a few cubes. Returning to the kiosk, I explain that she can have some of my ice for her drink. She takes a dew cubes looks me straight in the eye and says "You can call me Ma'am any time" and thanks me. My response? "Yes Ma'am!

So off to Ladd's. Arriving around 10 am. There are already several boats there.

I join the Pow Wow. Grilling is the thing to do when you're early, and when Dennis and Jake show up, Dennis brings out his grill. Today's menu is sponsored by the "Bearded one". There was grilled corn on the cobb, hamburgers with all the fixins. Of course you know when you get a group of guys together and corn cobbs are involved the comments and jokes just keep coming.(most are inappropriate for this forum but you get the idea

Stick shows up and we're loaded and ready. Off we go on a short run, when Stick gets a nice 3+ on a jig. I get one a few minutes later on a crankbait, that's 3. Uh Oh Off we go to spot #2. As we're cycling through spot #2, the bilge goes off. What! I know I put the plug in. A few minutes late it goes off again. Stick hook another 3 on the Jig. We now have 9 for 3. Good start, but bilge is going off again. Off to spot #3, this bilge thing is annoying, when I feel this faint "tic" and my line is heading for deep water. I set and reel as fast as my carpal tunnel will let me. The rod stays loaded up until I start to prevent it from going under the boat. Ping......unbuttoned. "What the crap?" to quote Travis Taylor.

So it's back to spot 2. While in spot 2, Stick is fiddling with a back lash, when we notice his line is swimming away. "What the crap?" another swing and a miss. For us there is absolutely no top water bite whatsoever. We're otta time and we got 14.3 according to "Bubba". Where is that big bite we wonder. Hope we find it by next week.
