Who's down with quitting

Post by Randy Yeager »

Ok guys, seems the support group since Bones quit smokin is gaining some steam, but I've lost track of all who are getting on the wagon "er ah BASSBOAT! " with Bones to quit.

So far I know of Bones, Cooch, Hawghunter, and Larry Douglas,

Anybody else?

Well I jumped into the thread, back near the start, and knew he could hang in and make it. The road is long but it can be done. I did and just had another thought to help or give a reason for quitting the smoke habit. The money I save from smoking goes now for Bass Fed tourneys, which is a whole lot more fun.. Bill K :)
Fun fishing the country, each and every week.

My Wonderful Wife!

Post by Ken C. »

After hearing me talk about all you guys quitting, having the Coochmeister give 'em up and after meeting CJ up at Clear Lake (Where he got to see her catch her very first Bass!) my wife Cheryl has decided to take up the fight! :D :D :D

She's done it before and been off them for a couple of years but after losing her mom an my mom in the same year combined with job stress she reverted... She's comitted now though - she just called me up out of the blue yesterday and told me she decided she had just smoked her last one. YAY!

So u-h-h Randy, does she qualify fer the rod offer  ?

Not yet, but I need to

Post by SRV »

Started in my early teens, am 53 now. Had signed up for the Rally, then all this came about. Figured Damn, gunna be an outcast for sure. Funny how our culture has changed over the years. Time was, smoking was almost the norm, not the social seperator it is today. I need to get my mind straight and DO THIS SOON! Congrats to all you quitters and continued success!!!

Ken, Yes, I would do that for your girl but it looks like Bones beat me to it, I'd sure like to be there when she picks it out, or how bout this, I'll spring for the reel to go with the rod.

I had a bit of help like this when I quit, and these deals are kind of like that country song where Joe helps the lady on the road but won't accept money, then the lady stops to eat and leaves the pregnant waitress the tip from a C-note, turns out she's Joes girl.

Full circle, it seems.

Official Quit Date

Post by Ken C. »

For Cheryl was Tuesday, June 27 at 1:00 pm.

I guess now I'll be experiencing the other side of the quitting process... How it affects your families!

I tell you what, I've already discovered a few flaws about me I wasn't aware of!

Thanks again everyone for your support of her quest!

It will be one year next month since I quit smoking. And, I must admit I MISS IT EVERY DAY! But, after having one heart attack eight years ago and then three stents planted in my arteries last year, making the count four stents now, I have some incentive.

It's great not to smoke, but there are times. Someone asked me the other day that if I were told by a doctor I only had six months to live what would I do. I immediately said, "go buy a pack of smokes."

I do feel better and my breath and clothes smell better. But it hasn't helped my fishing.
I was looking for a bar when I found this job.

Man, I've got it doubly bad. I quit smoking and for the third time it has been easy. I have never had a problem not smoking. The only thing is, I've been shewing about a can a day since I was 15. Chewing is much much harder to quit. I haven't even been close to succesful. I made it four days one time and a week the other time. It is incredibly difficult to quit chewing. It is high time to do so. The difference is that I have never really enjoyed smoking. Chewing on the other hand is one of my favorite things. I chew when I'm asleep. But the damage it is doing to my body, despite my best efforts to curb it, has just about got me to where I could try again. Any chewers on here that have succesfully stopped?

No personal experience wit' the "chaw", but from the outside looking in, how about making it dis-tasteful? Sprinkle a ton of Habanero sauce over the chew before you take it in, or Bitter Apple Spray. Something that will overcome your sense of satisfaction with a sense of... E-W-W-W!

If you make it so it is an unpleasurable activity your body will let you know! Good luck!

It's been exactly 1 week for me today. Man, fighting the URGE has been hard. :? I know I'm doing the right thing though. :) I agree with Cal T though, If I knew I only had a certain amount of time to live, I'll take a pack with a lighter PLEASE!! I've found a gum that I really like. It's that Care-Free coolers gum. It's about the BEST sugar-free gum out there taste wise. Comes in lemonade, grape, citrus, peppermint, and I saw Pina-Colada but passed on that flavor. Oh well, time is in our favor I guess. As time goes by, hopefully the URGE will too!!!!!!!!
