Fall rate

Post by Kelly Ripa »

With my winter spoon bite a lot of bass that I catch are on baits that I have to have just the right fall rate or it could be action or flash. Sometimes both and more  but either way I have taken my saltwater experience and discovered that Flat fall jigs are a whole new ball game on the largemouth here at Casitas Lake. I am currently using a spoon that is 21 gr. ( Basically 3/4 oz ) AHI IKARA -slow pitch jig in 35 to 55 of water and scoring on fish that I have not been able to catch with all of my other tricks.
I take off the bottom assist hook and replace it with a #4 red hook 12 pound test limber "Topwater" 7' IROD Cuercus rod.I Have been concentrating on off shore brush and I get near the brush but give myself room for the fall which can be any where in a 4 foot area when on the vertical. Popping it up in my swimming pool revealed the traveling nature of the return with this bait. One side is heavier than another so dependent on what edge catches it can take more/less time to the bottom ...every rip and return is different. 5+ pound fish each day I've used it ( 4 trips). It would crush them at Berryessa and all the Norcal lakes. It is a legit bait that is simple, cheap, and works. Have a great Thanksgiving one and all.

I appreciate the tip. I’m going to try this on Oroville.

A lot of P.M.'s asking where to get them ...Try Promar-Ahi they are on sale right now
They are Offset center balanced to amplify the erratic action. The bait is tuned to be heaviest on one side of the center ensuring a pendulum action...It catches one edge then swings out to fall back on the opposite edge.
Good luck...tight lines

Not with my flip phone... You wouldn't see anything other than I change the hook out from stock. That stinger hook by the eye can hook your fish in such a way as to make you think the 13 inch fish you have on might be three pounds or so...except it's coming up sideways
