Post by george »

Who knows what the name of the lake is at Hwy 92 exit to Half Moon Bay from Hwy 680. I went through there last weekend and thought it was a pretty neat lake! Is it private or public? thanks george

That's funny you ask that question, I was wondering myself. That water looks awesome, I nearly get into an accident every time I drive by there and can only dream of the untouched fish in there :?:

I had my rigs in the car today as I drove by and was trying to think how much that ticket would be and if it would be worth it

I used to live right off 92 and could almost see the dam from my backyard. The lakes are full of big Trout and Bass. I've heard about them, and seen them w/ my own eyes. If you stand on the dam in the morning/evening, usually you'll see some trout jumping and when its warm some Bass right down below in the weeds. I read where that was the first lake in CA to receive FL strain Bass many years ago, someone correct me if I'm wrong. I can only imagine what you'd come up with throwing a swimbait in there...who knows, maybe the world record?? People have fought for it to be opened to the public, but I think that would be a huge mistake!!

Crystal Springs Reservoir, formerly known as San Andreas Lake, is a part of San Francisco's Hetch Hetchy water system. It's been off limits to angling for over seventy years at least. Sometimes VIP's get to take a tour of the lake and get some fishing in, when Jimmy Carter was president he got out on the lake but unless you work for the water district it's highly unlikely that you'll get a cast on this pond. When I was kid growing up nearby we used to hope and pray to get a shot at fishing the upper or lower lake but if you sneak in you'll get a rude reception, a pricey ticket, a quick trip out and all your gear confiscated.

I had friends that grew up on the property and they'd tell stories of awesome fishing but they pretty much bogarded the place to themselves, hahaha.

Actually -- it's always been know as Crystal Springs Reservoir (upper to the south and lower to the north). San Andreas Reservoir is the third in the string and the furthest to the north -- it can be seen from Hwy 280, but not 92. And, as a current employee of the former SF Water Department, now known as the SFPUC, fishing is highly frowned upon now-adays -- the City used to let employees fish on their off time, but when too many of them were bragging about the results to their buddys a quick stop was put to it. The only people that do get to fish now are the biologists as part of the occasional survey. And if you want o hear some of thsoe stories, you'll have to track me down on the water!
