Hardly anyone fishes Lake Merced for Bass because theres not really many in either of them. I used to trout fish there alot in the early 90's and a couple guys would fish primarily the North Lake for Bass from time to time. They werent the best anglers but would basically just flip jigs and big power worms all day and usually get 1 or 2, though they were normally good sized fish. Once I saw a 12lber caught in the South Lake on salmon eggs of all things!!!!

back in the day (1970s!), when more of the lake was accessible to shore walkers, my buds and i would fish Merced for bass, when the trout wouldn't bite or we already had our limit... the best thing we found was to toss unweighted whole nightcrawlers texas rigged into tule pockets. There weren't a whole lot - we rarely caught more than two a day. We fished South Lake more than North. Try around the boat docks if they will let you.
