Re: I NEED HELP WITH THE DELTA
I'm not a good one to answer this for you, but stick with it, and try to learn one area at a time. It helps a lot.
Another idea would be to talk with Cooch or one of the other Delta rats out there.
Good luck!

Go to the WesternBass.Com library for some great reading. Cooch has some great material there and you will find many articles addressing tides, dirty water, current, different baits and presentations.

Re: I NEED HELP WITH THE DELTA
If you want instant results pony up and hire a guide, there is a whole bunch on this site to choose from. Otherwise read some of the articles and go out and try some of the techniques on your own, a beaver and flipping stick is not a bad place to start.

i am not a pro but i do like and perfer to fish the D-E-L-T-A over any place!!! my advise is explore, explore, end explore.o yeah and explore. learn new water as much as you can. go out on different tides too. then go get a map and mark them up with your experiences...go, or bad, or even what you could have done different...my fishing pal and i do this all the time. trip by trip we are getting better and better.
o yeah i also went on a guide trip with cooch. i told him i wanted to look around. boy! did we go look...

Re: I NEED HELP WITH THE DELTA
Remember that the Delta is a complex of lakes and rivers..
look for confluences where rivers meet, or make a sharp bend. Tule islands that are at intersections are a good place to start - one side of almost any tule island is facing deeper water. the current will place algae, bait and predators in that area. Wind makes current too (boy did it ever this weekend!). The backwater harbors make up more lake type fishing - Discovery Bay in particular, fishes more or less like a big lake, the ramp side has depths to 35-40' without much current (except openings). The flooded islands, like Franks and Big Break, etc. are a blend of both.. giant lakes with a little or lot of current, depending on location and proximity to the river.
Finally, hire a guide - it's the best investment you could make - considering that each trip costs about $100 in gas (between your tow vehicle and boat) each time out - a trip spent wandering around is a wasted trip and wasted $$.
I've been fishing the Delta for seven years and still learned a LOT from Cooch and Barrack on trips out with them this year.

Re: I NEED HELP WITH THE DELTA
I am new to the Delta as well, I have been lucky enough to go out there and catch fish on all my trips (except this weekend when my engine went cuput)
Cooch says this a lot and it really has helped me. FORGET THE TIDES. Dont try to run the tide, pick an area and fish it. Keep current flow in mind and how fish position in current. Take a small section and explore it I have been focusing in on the Franks tract and surrounding areas. I launch out of different harbors that put me closer to the area I want to fish and explore those sections.
Tools
1. Flipp 20'lb Sweet Beaver, Brushhog
2.) Pitch Senko
3.) Spinnerbait whit chart w/gold blades
4.) Crank either a bomber or Lipless crank.
When the tide is up flip the tulles and pitch the senko when it is down fish the weed clumps in front of where you were catching your flip fish, also to you can spinnerbait them up.
Again I am new to the Delta however these are my observations and I am able to catch fish out there. Dont sweat the tide and where when etc... just take out the map pick an area and really fish it throughout the day. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite fishing holes.
Regards,
Jonathan
