Congrats Cory............
Way to go.....You absolutely smoked everyone.
I had never met you so I dont know what you look like but I think it was you I met at the Pilot gas station after the tournament. (it may have been your partner, but he/you said you won the event.) I was the guy with the yellow Skeeter and yellow Hummer you talked to inside wendys. You know...I'm the guy who was walking with his head down like someone just stole my lunch money. Havasu took its toll on me this weekend and I was as dejected as can be after a great prefish. I felt like someone sprayed me with peanut butter and then rolled me in the dirt. But when you told me you won I tried to put my horrible finish behind me and show happiness for your win.
If that was you I met...I want to say congrats again. You werent arrogant, or big headed....you seemed very down to earth and sincere. You didnt brag but I could tell you were happy and proud of your accomplishment.....And rightfully so....you laid a major beat down on a field of great anglers.
If it wasnt you that I met and it was indeed your partner....tell him congrats again from me.......good job guys....

I regularly view the forum and I think Westernbass is great. The truth is I just type at turtle speed and I find by the time I get something typed I find it is gramatically incorrect because I was staring so hard at the keyboard looking for the next letter I brain fade. Another thing is I try to be very positive and sometimes typed statements or thoughts can come out wrong and don't really allow you to get the true emotion out. Just know I view westernbass regularly and if you ever have a question or need anything feel free to contact me. I fish Castaic and some of the other so cal lakes a couple days a week so if you see me also feel free to say hello. By the way whats your name?
Thanks

Ever since I've known Cory he has done well and every time he shows up at a tournament he is a contender. Maybe I'm taking your post wrong but Cory is around and may not post much but he is there.

Cory,
Even though we have had our differences I must
still congratulate on the win. Havasu was bound
to happen for you. I see you have gotten your head
together and it’s paying off.

I'm The same way Corey! I can't type any better than a 2 year old myself. Nobody here really cares cares how well you type, and I think I speak for the majority, is why we call it a forum, just a place to hear yourself think in the likeness of others who have the same passions as you do. Being as experienced and versed in your fishing endevers well enough to win a major event I'm sure many of the followers of this forum would welcome your views, opinons and thoughts involving our fishing passions. Good Luck in your other fishing ventures and by the way mY NaMe Is Jeff Grossman

Cory, It looks like you "won" the tournament with someone other than the partner you qualified with. I thought you were required to fish championships alone or with the partner you qualified with? What gives?

What you talking about...
Cory doesn't need to answer to this or any other question. The rules on the National Bass West website speak to how or when someone can file a protest. Additionally, National Bass West listed Cory’s partner, Joseph Woody, who was not present on the first day, as the same person that he fished with the second day. Furthermore, he communicated with the TD as to if he could fish with his partner, who couldn’t be there on Saturday because of work, that was named on the tournament results for the first day, on the second day. If Cory wasn’t supposed to fish with Joe Woody, then why did NBW list him as his partner for day one?

Ricky, I am with you on this subject, but my question is that should NBW have let any team that fished only 1 event in the finals. More power to Cory for kicking butt, the issue here is the Peterson's qualification criteria. Cory is the undisputed champ, but NBW needs to re-think their rules. Rick G.

Re: What you talking about...
I might be mistaken but it looked to me like
Cory fished three events with Joe Woody as
His partner and another with a guy named Mike.
The rules stated that you only had to fish three events
with the same person. Also unless the current standings
weren’t up to date it showed Cory in 31st place over-all.

Re: What you talking about...
Sounds like someone is a little touchy on the subject.Cory doesn't need to answer to this or any other question.
The fact is that Cory fished with, and qualified for the championship with, Mike Capuano not Joesph Woody. From your defensive response, I can now only assume that he knew the rules and decided to take advantage of the mistake that the TD/NBW made by allowing them to fish. If that is your definition of a stand-up guy, then I am glad we are not acquainted.
Re: What you talking about...
Sorry, I missed this part of your response. It is sad that the first loser got all the way home and found something to make into a bigger issue than it really was. Why wasn’t this a issue after the first day?
1) How could it be an issue after the first day if he fished alone the first day?
2) When someone violates the rules, knowingly or otherwise, there is a penalty involved and EVERYONE who fishes team tournaments knows you cannot just bring anyone you feel like to fish the championship. Maybe the guy who finished in second could have asked Mike Goodwin to be his partner the second day, I hear he's pretty good on Havasu!
3) Do you know everyone who fishes in California? This was not an error that would be caught by fellow competitors at the lake unless perhaps they qualified from the same region.
4) You have some serious issues with this, I hope no one ever cheats you out of a win. "2nd" loser becomes the winner when the "winner" doesn't play by the rules!
5) I have no stake in this either way. I was just looking into fishing a "new" circuit and noticed, what I thought, was a problem.

After reading RJ's post I double checked and I'm wrong about
Cory fishing three events with Joe Woody and One with Mike C.
It was the other way around. One with Joe Woody and three with Mike.

Plus, do you really think he wouldnt win with the other guy in the boat, or on the piece of paper. Dont try to ruin this for Cory. He worked way too hard and in no way did he cheat. Re: What you talking about...
I am really not trying to start an argument and I did attempt to contact the TD but received no reply as of yet. It just seems odd to me that when situations like these occur, someone always comes to the defense of the wrong side. The guys who fished the tournament, caught the most weight and did not violate any rules, win. That's It. The guys who violated the rules (knowingly or unknowingly, through their fault, someone elses fault or no fault), must step up and take responsibility. If you fish alot of tournaments, especially team tournaments, that is the way you would want it. I can almost guarantee that if I "won" under the same circumstances, and your friend was "first loser" you would not be on this website defending me.
BTW: I did not see where Mr. Dispensiero fished any other NBW tournaments other than the 4 already mentioned. I don't know about rules clarification and learning for the future, but the current rules seem pretty clear to me.
"Teams must fish a minimum of 4 tournaments to qualify for the National Bass Team championship. The top fifty percent of the total teams point leaders from each region will qualify for the National Bass West Team Championship. No points may be transferred from one team to another. Each member is allowed to fish four (4) events alone and represents the team providing the team fishes at least three (3) events together. A contestant may fish the first event alone without a designated partner and accumulate points but the team must be declared by the fourth event."
If you want my "real" name you can PM me...

Not defending Cory-Well maybe
My only point is that the tournament organization makes and enforces the rules. Before you accuse someone of cheating or rules violations, I think that it is more appropriate to allow the organization to respond to the issues, as opposed to trying to question the angler(s).

Re: What you talking about...
Not that that matters one iota, but if he thought he could win without him why did he give him $5,000 to fish one day! I don't know Cory or anything about him. I'm sure he is a great guy and a good stick, but he didn't win. He caught a bad break which happens sometimes. If you were in a tournament and the tournament director unwittingly gave a competitor the idea it was okay to fish in the hatchery pond next to the lake, you would be pissed. You wouldn't say, "oh he's a good guy. He deserved to get to fish in the hatchery even though it was off limits to everyone else." What you do in a situation like this shows what kind of person you are. Do you give the money back when a cashier gives you too much change or is that her fault for making a mistake? What if that money comes out of her pocket at the end of the day? God, I cannot believe this has turned into a lecture on COMMON DECENCY!!!! If you, as a "youngin" don't get what I am talking about, I am sorry.Plus, do you really think he wouldnt win with the other guy in the boat, or on the piece of paper. Dont try to ruin this for Cory. Re: What you talking about...
None of my business, but Cory deserves all props for his win. If anyone wants to point fingers, Nat. Bass is to blame. How can someone qualify for a TOC if they only fished one event with the partner that ended up competing in the TOC? That's weak and National Bass is to blame, not Cory.

Doesn't this kind of crap just make you want to be a new tournament director. I'm sure that you have already thought of how you would handle this kind of stuff. You will be the bomb.
Good luck,

Swim8 you must have an amazing mind to be able to remember the names and qualifications of every team at a 100 team tournament, especially when you've never met most of them... If you took the time to read what I said, and not just respond, you might actually get something out of it.
