Hey Bones

Post by John Barron »

I have a question for you or the other Beaver hunters. Now I haved eatin' my share of beaver in the past, some were real sweet and some were...well...stronger than others. I was brought up to never eat the males only the females. I was told that the males will leave such a bad taste in your mouth that no amount of whiskey can get rid of it.

I'm not a beaver hunter per say but I have done my share. If you beaver hunters can tell me how do you tell if one is going to be sweet versus strong tasting if you can? Is there a special rub you use or a certain way you prepare the beaver besides just plain wash it? I try to remember what my daddy always said "if it don't smell good...don't eat it!" I'm sure that applies to Beaver as well.
Thanks for your help.

Hey Ron,
Just wondering, wasn't Mrs. Cleaver always telling Ward to "go easy on the Beaver?" I never saw him with any hunting or trapping gear!!!

My favorite line from that show to this day is still June saying to Ward,

"Weren't you a bit hard on the Beaver last night?"

Gotta agree, the shaven beaver is typically one that is unusually wild and over-exposed to the elements. Some have even been known to harbor a certain type of yeast which has also been shown to produce a mildly toxic cheese. Stay away from the beaver cheese! That yeast culture however has proven to make a superior, San Francisco style sour-dough bread...

Shawn,

I prefer my beavers without fur. Fur is nasty!
