Just currious as to why you would want to coat a CB... It will change the sound ( wich might not be a bad thing ) and change the weight/action... Time and time again I find that the CB that has hit the rocks and been beat to crap works ( catches more fish ) better than a nice new shinny one.... Maybe just a confidence thing,,, prolly not. I dont subscribe to all the ooga booga....

J,
I don't think one coat of clear will change a bait's action, but, if it's balsa, absorbing water will. And a crack in a plastic lure will let water in. So having a clear coat that's durable, clear, and easy to apply would be great. I've used two part epoxy, and super glue, but they don't do the jobs.
Any ideas or sources?

Just use Flex Coat. The same stuff that they put on rods. It may yellow over time.(Years) But chances are, if you fish that crankbait right you wont have it that long anyways. You just need to have a way of rotating your lures for about 6 hours. If you dont have this ability, then you can use 5 min epxoy. You can get this at Home Depot, you just wont get as smooth of a finish. Good luck.

Corey,
I found the 5 minute epoxy yellows right away. The slower (15 or 30 min.) seem to be more clear.
I just ordered some vinyl clear coat. I figure it will work, short term, when I need it. Long term, I will use 30 minute epoxy, and turn it by hand (what a pain).

Many years ago, I played with a BBQ rotiserrie motor for turning rods slowly after I coated the wraps. It worked, because it was really slow, but it was a pain to rig. And that was two houses ago, and it got lost somewhere between there and here. But it did work for rods.
I don't think I'd invest the same amount of time again to rig up a lure turner. Just lazy in my old(er) age.

Didnt say that it was a bad thing.... And I know I am not the only one who DOES NOT coat his baits....And depending on what you use it will change... If the line diameter will have an effect on the depth then weight will sure have an effect on the action... ....and the sound.... wich like I said.... isnt always a bad thing...

I USE, AND MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE LIFE OF A CRANKBAIT, AND IT WORKS GREAT IS, HARD AS NAILS (WET AND WILD) MEGA LAST; CLEAR COAT NAIL POLISH. DRIES FAIRLY FAST, COMES WITH BRUSH, IS HARD AND WORKS GREAT.
BEEN USING IT FOR OVER 20 YEARS ALSO OTHER WET & WILD PRODUCTS. I KNOW THIS MAY RAISE SOME EYEBROWS BUT HEY BEEN PAINTING LURES FOR YEARS WITH THE STUFF.
BEEN MY LITTLE SECRET I GUESS. JIG HEADS, SPINNERBAIT HEADS, LURES.

Jigs

I have been using the same product for years..The only problem I ever had was that Berkley Power worms will soften it and make it runny.... then they came out with the nail hardener and that stopped the problem..HaHa and I thought it was my secret...there are no secrets anymore..Either that or us old dogs just think we have secrets
