Question for Contractors/builders
Question for Contractors/builders
My mom has a patio cover that looks to be all aluminum. It has a lattice type cover that she wants a roof on. Any ideas on what I can do or any quotes to do it for me?
I have thought about clear corrugated but don't know if the aluminum latttice will support the work weight (standing on it to attach panels).
Cover is approximately 20X12 and has a gable roof type shape on one half. Kinda looks like /\_
Thanks!!

Gator, just me talking (or babbling) but without seeing if it would be hard to tell. Can you post some pics? What is on it now - if anything?
Depending on the pitch of the cover I would suspect that you could get a sheet of 1/2" plywood or OSB to put up there and that would allow you to get up and lay the new panels (moving it as you go). Or you could get a ladder/scaffolding that would let you work up there without being up there, if you know what I mean.
"Mom projects"... I really miss them. As much as I sometimes got annoyed by having to do them I would give anything to be able to still have them to do. Be thankful you can still do them.
I'd be there to help you in a minute if my back wasn't still messed up.

Yup, I'm thinking this post needs bootin to the "building and construction" page. Gator of all people, I'm simply shocked

Re: Question for Contractors/builders
If you end up using clear corrugated plastic I would suggest caulking every lap seam you have. For that caulking i would suggest using Lexel, its sticky as hell, and about as clear a caulk as you can buy. Also because the substructure is aluminum i would suggest using sheetmetal like screws with a polyurethane gromet to seel around the screw(similar to aluminum roofing nails but a screw)

If you get stuck for a builder let me know, I have a couple friends who fish my tournaments who are builders and get slow in the winter due to snow where they live.

You need to consider how this is going to react when
what will happen in a heavy wind. There is a tremendous amount to consider. I would hate to give you sight unseen advice. I think the building inspector is going to give you the best answers. most of the aluminum awning type frameworks are not built to support the weight of a person. If the roof fraim does not buckle the support posts could fold under the load.
