how to price a boat

Post by swampy »

I'm wanting to upgrade and get into a bigger boat but don't know how much I should ask for mine. It's a '86 champion 15.5' with a newer 75 hp merc and a 80 lb thrust minkota maxim tm.Is there a site I could get on that might give me a starting point?I might have a buyer but just don't know how much to ask for it.
Thanks in advance

Thanks,I just checked it and doesn't look like I'll get what I put into it(or anywhere close  )Looks like I'll be keeping it for a long time.Good points are it's great on gas(12 gal tank)I can run from river's end up to mildered and back fishing everything in between and only burn 3/4 tank :) and it tows like nothing is back there.
If ya see a big guy in a little grey and red champion  ,stop and say howdy.I'm on the river just about every weekend.

Unfortunately with smaller used boats, you rarely get what you put into them. They just do not hold value for long periods of time. You need to decide what value you will get from a newer upgraded boat versus the difference in price you would get for your boat. If you are happy with yours, stay with it. If you must upgrade, take the hit and move on.

I kinda figured as much,I'll just get the most I can out of it for now and start saving the $.
Also do ya think I could get away with fishing some tournies from it?(not sure if most orgs have a min hp rule.I've been thinking about it for a while but thought it was just too small.

I'd price it at $45,000 and donate it to charity.

The tax savings on $45,000 is probably a lot more than you'd get by selling it! LOL!

Either that or sink it for the insurance  it's really a clean little boat but does get kinda cramped for storage and space when fishing with 2 people. It's fast enough(45 with just me) but a bit on the unstable side(hate them wakes!)

Call it a 16 footer and you will be fine. With a 75 horse you will meet most if not all minimum HP rules. I have read alot of 16 foot minimum length rules however!

Some tournament orgs have a small boat class with a max HP of 90 so you might want to look there as well!

yo swampy, you are probably good in most team tournament formats. I fished the last WON delta in my 15' jon with a 15hp motor. Aside from someone asking me if I was selling tomales out of my cooler in the morning, it was all good, LOL!

Watch the classifieds on here, every couple months I see some killer deals go by on used bassboats.

Swampy,

Me and my Partner are fishing AC tourneys out of his 16 foot Tracker with a 25 on the back. I think you would be fine in most team tourneys or club tourneys. If you do end up selling your boat let me know, it is a clean little rig.
