Ranger Trailer Help

One of our club members has a problem with his 1998 Ranger 487 trailer. He lost a wheel while traveling a while back and the result was damaged lugs on the hub. He has been in contact with Ranger and they tell him it should be a 5 lug hub but he has 6 lug hubs. They have sent him some lug nuts but they were wrong. He is willing to replace the hub itself but no one can tell him which is the correct one he needs.

Has any other Ranger owners had the same type of problem and if so, what was your soloution? He has several tournament coming soon and needs to get this done ASAP.

Have him call C&C in Modesto or Ranger direct but make sure he has the trailor S/N when he calls.
Ranger keeps all records on each and every boat and trailor when it leaves the factory. They should be able to match it unless it has been changed for some reason by an after market company.

I agree with Gene,
if you cant get a hold of anyone rite away in Modesto call the C&C in Roseville. Talk to Mike or Phillip, they are the men!!!
Between them both you should have your answer rite on the phone. :lol:

From personal experience, go through Ranger parts with the S/N as stated above. Do not try to get something aftermarket, Ranger has stuff special made, so trying this will only delay the process even further.

Woo Hoo! This happened to me last week.. and Voila~ A 487 on top of it too. I believe you are talking about the Lug Studs? Not sure, but if they broke off, or were damaged then you have to replace them. If that is what you are talking about, are the back of the studs (backside of the rotor) flat, or do they have a place for an Allen driver? If they are that type, you screw them out... if they are the flat kind, you press them in. Wasn't your rotor damaged? He should take the whole rotor assembly to the nearest ranger dealer and have them match it for one, or buy a new one... let me know. Oh.. by the way, how is the fender now?lol :lol: Mine's ghettofabulous now.

I have never seen any bass boat with a six lug pattern. I believe Ranger is correct in saying it should have 5. This will not allow you to order from Ranger.

Early trailers are easy to find parts for and most parts stores can match up a wheel stud and lugnuts. Length of the stud can vary but the spline size needs to be correct for a tight enough fit. The last thing you want is a stud that spins when you want to take a flat tire off.

If the stud screws in it will be easy to match and install.

If you haven't already done it, take the hub to your local auto shop and have them installed.

You should have a local trailer parts house who carries the different (5 ) styles of trailer hubs. These are very inexpesive and your friend could replace the whole hub with new bearings for under fifty bucks. If you lost a wheel the hub could be damaged and it is worth it to go new. my.02

I agree with Mikey,
your local trailer shop will know exactly what to to.
Most, if not all of the marine places rarley do any work on the trailers themselve's.... Even the boat companies get their trailers made out of house.

Did all you guys notice Auggie is from Ukiah? That's a long ways from Rosevill or Modesto. I have a 98' 488 vs wich I replaced the whole axle. I didn't notice anything special about the hubs and they are five lug. I would think any good trailer repair shop can replace the missing lug. There's no such thing as a special thread. Trust me, I'm a mechanical engineer that deals with this stuff day in and day out. Sorry you don't really think Ranger would make special lug for their trailers do you. That just wouldn't be cost effective. Most of the time you can find marine componets from major part houses like McMaster Carr. So if Ranger continues to give you the run around, then try a trailer specialist like Champion. Measure length of the stud, the diameter of the fit section, and thread size to be replaces.
