Lake Casitas Thief

Post by Ron C »

During our morning sign-ups at Lake Casitas last Saturday, some low-life stole the rear seat out of Marvin Barellano's Triton, which was parked in the parking lot. I have a real hard time believing that it was a fellow tournament angler and am more inclined to think that it was some POS walking through the parking lot. If any of you saw or heard anything, please e-mail or PM me.

Thanks

While we're at it... some lowlife stole the master cylinder cover off my partner's Stratos trailer in the Castaic parking lot. How frickin' low can you get??? It can't be too much to just buy a replacement, can it??? SHEESH!!!

I hope you sink your boat and catch nothing but rats!

I had a HORRIBLE incident at Casitas about 10 years ago during a two day tourney club tourney when I was with Beach Cities Bass.. All my rods were stolen from the passenger (non-boater) side of the boat..
We suspect they stole them when we unhooked the boat to go into town to get sandwhiches and stuff for the next day..
We were in the camp grounds with the boat cover on the boat and when we came back from the store, we hooked the boat up and thought nothing of it..
When we woke up in the morning (mind you we slept right inside the truck so I highly doubt that they stole my stuff while we were sleep) we took the cover off the boat and that is when I noticed that all my rods that were ready and rigged up were gone and my life has been forever marked with that tragic moment that morning before the tourney..
I was pretty young then around 22 and I was working for Turners Outdoorsman at the time so I had some GREAT stuff that was stolen...
Having said that if anyone ever see's a Calcutta with Rod Wynn engraved on the side then that is part of the merchandise that was stolen..right along with a complete set of Team Diawa LT rods with Shimano and Team Diawa reels..
I was SICK that morning and it brought me to tears but I battled back to still get 4th place but that didnt and will never replace what happened to me that horrible weekend at Casitas....
May those thiefs die a painful death because a part of me died that day..

Thanks for your time..

Last fall at Casitas, I had a plano box full of spoons and tailspins stolen off the deck of my boat while my club was in the cafe eating after our tournament. I don't leave my boat alone there now without a cover, even to eat.
With digital cameras, it shouldn't be too hard to have surveilance of the lot to spot these clowns.
I'm still finding stuff that was in that box and is now missing.

I had my front light taken at a tournament one time. How about the time the guys truck was taking out of the parking lot at Mohave during the WON pro am. Someone stole it while he was in the hotel room. He had just parked the boat and took it off of the truck. I had my $180.00 sunglasses taking off of my front seat the same day.

Maybe it was Brian Linehan. I heard he was eyeing the boxes of Tailspins I gave out at the 100% tournament at Castaic last weekend.

That's horrible! Sad thing is, most of these incidents sound like it would more than likely be another tourney competitor. Now that's scary.

I don't think that's the case at casitas Murph. There have a been a lot of non-tournament people up there lately. Between the shore fishermen, the rental boat militia, the clowns that do laps around the island all day and all the people there shooting commercials lately there have been a lot of shady characters running around.

Murph,
I doubt it's a tourney person. There are tons of low life campers and day scroungers at our public lakes. More than likely one of them.
Or, like the crooks who periodically break into our trucks on jobsites. Mainly druggies looking for quick money.
Once they find an area with lots of construction, they develop a milk run, a pattern, just like in fishing.

These two incidents sound like they were done by a boater, though, especially the master cylinder cover... no value to anyone other than someone with an identical trailer. A rear seat, perhaps more intrinsic value, but still probably someone wanting it for their boat.

I DO NOT believe these were tournament anglers, though.

I would certainly hope that it's just some p.o.s. . But a rear light, a butt seat, and a master cylinder cover , just seem like , well, they wouldn't be on most people's hit list. I know at Shasta, at the Very Dark, Packer's Bay launch facility, I was very relieved each day, to come back with everything still in it's place.

I don't think that locks will keep them out. We had over $50,000 worth of tools taking from all of the trades on our puente hills jobsite. They came in on saturday and locked the gates behind them and started cutting holes into the storage bins. When they where done it looked like a war zone. They had the balls to come back the next weekend.

my buddies that I fish with say I'm over paraniod for taking all my tackle lures/rods/reels/meters and lock them in my car each eveing at tourneys or fun fishing or even if i want to stop for a bite. Even if you guys think I'm nuts think about the fact that most people are honest or paranoid of being caught but all it takes is one single person to ruin your whole day, trip or vacation. Why take the chance! 10-15 minutes extra after wipe down your done and the extra exercise is good for ya!!! I have had my 34 day old brand new ranger stolen right out of my driveway fully locked with a Kryptonite motorcycle lock to a telephone pole and and my removable tongue removed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not at casitas but,

A couple of weeks back there was some break-ins at the boat storage. Good thing two of our supervisors are retired cops and staked out the boat storage. They caught 2 kids 12 and 14years old stealing rods, reels, lures and carving FU in the side of 3 boats gel coat. The sheriffs department went to the kids house and found 3800 worth of stolen fishing equipment. The parents didn’t even have an idea what there kids were doing! I think the fact my kid, who doesn’t have a job has 10 new rod and reel combos!!

I'm working on installing a security camera system in my truck to watch the boat and trailer and record everything. I wanted to catch the butt holes that always seem to run into my trailer in the parking lot, but I'll use it to watch over my stuff to. I'm tired of people like this.

Ron,
Sorry it's taken so long to respond directly to this. Too busy running my mouth.
Several years ago, I was on the 405 going to Castaic, and had to dodge a Tracker seat just like the one on my boat.
While I was fishing that day, I ran across a family in their brand new deep V Tracker with a Bimini top.
They had no back seat. I asked them about it, and they said they had lost it on the freeway, because they had just laid it on the back deck while they were fooling around with the Bimini top, and didn't have it dropped down into the mounting hole.
Do you think it might be possible that your boater forgot to secure the seat at o'dark thirty that morning, when he was leaving home, and it bounced off on the way to the lake? I know it sounds dumb, but we all do dumb things once in a while (except you and me, of course).
What you posted about a very specific theft, for a specific boat, got me thinking. I haven't met a boater yet with a newer Triton or other higher end boat who I would think is a theif. In fact, I haven't met anyone on any lake who didn't seem up and up. Grumpy, maybe, but honest.
