If you go to Casitas...

Post by swimb8 »

please keep a heads up for one of our Custom swimbaits. While at the lake on monday Shaun decided to try and catch a big one. Nothing new really but when he threw the bait over a point it got grenanded on by a giant. He said it was big but when he tried to turn her she broke him off on 25 lb. He had her stuck in the top of the head and its a really big bait. He said she floated up twice but when he got close enough to net her she bolted. We think she will be dead somewhere and we arent happy about it. But.... if any of you are at the lake and happen to see her floating, please grab the baits off of her. It takes a lot of time to make one and if it was your time you would know what we're talking about. We hate to kill fish and we're not even sure she didnt shake it somewhere but she was stuck good. If you see the bait please let us know or give it to the people at the boat rental. Thanks in advance. Shaun says he'll give a free guide trip to anyone who finds it.  Hes gonna love me for that one. thanks guys

That's a bad feeling, but there's nothing he could have done about it. My partner and I will keep an eye out for it. I assure you that you'll get it back if we find it, I know how much work goes into making those things and it would suck to lose one.

its was on the west side of the island. the wind was blowing from the dam so it should be somewhere in station opr deep cat. but heck the fish could have swam 6 laps before turning belly up. who knows? it just stinks having a giant die on us. i hope it was able to shake it.

must be a pretty secret bait to offer the free guide trip, he he....

i bet a lot of long hours went into making it.. Im sure someone will find it and give it back. Hopefully the big mama was able to shake it and survive!

If you catch it again, does the weight of the swimbait stuck in the head count towards the actual fish weight?? :?: :?:

Shades of Harry Jioras.
We had the same thing happen to us in a tourney several years back. Story is way too long to type out here.

Suffice it to say that the fish was 18#+ and stuck real good. Line broke about 20' from the bait on Harry's second hook set. It was a super bouyant plug (Very large Z Plug) and she kept coming up to try and throw it; Several times within 20' of us. We re-visited that point several times throughout the day but never recovered the fish or the bait. But there was always a guy there throwing like a madman on the point when we checked it. "You should see the size of the fish eatting trout here!"

We would reply: actually she's not eatting trout, that's our bait in her mouth!

Same tourney that Warren & Dana Rosen brought in their 5 fish for 60+#. the big girls were out to play that day and we F'd it up! lol

Hope the fish throws it and you get it back. I'ld look for it myself but we are off to Castaic on Sat for a AC tourney.

This one was on the east shore. One of the non-descript ones towards the dam from Wadliegh. Nothing really special about it. Except of course for the fact that a 18 was living there for awhile.

Unfortunately, it's like saying that "I lost my golden egg laying goose that has my magic wand in it's back pocket" When you find it, can I have it back"???

I'm guessing 90 out of 100 are going to say yippee! look what I found!

I'm hoping that someone doesn't try to register the big girl as something that they caught, after removing YOUR bait from her mouth!
