Hello,
I need a rod and reel to throw topwater plugs for stripers and bass. My budget would be up to 300.00 dollars for the combo.
Should I go with braid or mono?
I've had great success with the fly rod for stripers and bass on the delta, but that topwater grab is unbelievable!

There are plenty of good rods that you can choose from. Normally any reaction bait rod is either a composite or fiberglass, not graphite. I personally like the GLoomis 7' Heavy Crankin stick for spooks.
Daiwa has a reel called the Coastal Inshore special for $120. This is a very good reel that i know will definitely handle big stipers.
I always use braid because i do not want any stretch at all when i set the hook. Braid does not seem to bother the fish. Just use a Sharpie and mark up the first 10 feet or so, its very hard to see against the water.
hope this helps
