New Clear Lake tournament record

Post by Ross England »

Congrats to Russ Stansbury and Andy Parsons for posting a new one day tournament record for a 5 fish limit on Clear Lake. They brought over 44 pounds to the scales Sunday during the Holder Ford team tournament including an 11 and a 14.

As the former record holder with almost 42 pounds, let me be the first to congratulate their awesome day on the water! Speaking with them both after the event it was apparent they were still somewhat amazed at what they had accomplished, I remember that feeling.

Couldn't happen to a nicer pair of guys!

What about that thread a week or two back that said there weren't any big bass left in Clear Lake? Didn't those guys read that?.....

Seriously. When it takes over 70 to win, you know you're in an awesome fishery. We had to make two trips in the release boat on Saturday!

& stay tuned for BASS......
It's just a beating.....till you fight back.

Lionkiller,

The thread you are referring to was " Clear Lake record bass"

We all know that big bass (10-14lbs) are caught on a rather regular basis in Clear Lake, but the huge bass that this lake is capable of producing has eluded anglers for quite some time.

The recent tournament weights to some extent have proven this theory, if a planting program was implemented to maintain the Florida strain bass we may be seeing more 14-18 lb bass and possibly some 20lbers.

Just a little food for thought!

Thanks, Ross. It was an unbelievable day, one that I'm sure neither of us will ever forget. It really is great to see Russ taking off as an angler - he's definitely paid his dues, & it is paying off.

Here's a photo of Russ with his 14.5 & 11.2 lb fish, courtesy of Tim Goldberg:

And here's one of Russ & me. I'm holding the 7 lb'er that I caught that's dwarfed by Russ' 14.5 lb fish:

Thanks, Korny, for another well-run, fun event. The weigh-in went smoothly, the dinner was terrific, & the fishing was epic. Over 50 lbs for 2 days to get in the top 12 or so? Wow.

Andy

That is just unreal ! I mean, from a personal standoint, the total sack weight is fairly impressive, and congrats to these guys for the win.
But I'm just not sure how many people, understand how "huge" of a deal a 14.5 from Clear Lk. is !

I honestly can't remember the last time I heard of a bass this big from Clear which was actually weighed !

I mean from Berry, or Pedro, or even the Delta, a few bass of this size, or even larer can basically be expected every year. But from Clear ? Whooo hooo !

Awesome fish !

...a 14.5 is the biggest bass that I have heard being caught at Clear Lake in a long time. I have a feeling that the BASSMASTER Elite Series tournament there in two weeks will crush the existing four-day/20 fish winning weight record of 115-15.

Congrats to Russ Stansbury and Andy Parsons on their great victory.

Congrats to Russ Stansbury and Andy Parsons on their great victory.

With the looks of things...I guess Russ has brought back the Don Johnson look.
Great, now we have to have a five o'clock shadow just to catch 14+pound fish!
