Your go to bait!!

Post by g-man »

If you could only have one bait when out fishing. What would it be?

For Clear Lake, and the Delta mine would be a rod strainer Jig Brown/ yamamoto single tail grub

For all other lakes 3/8 football head hula grub cin/blk flake.

I'm not talking about hog hunting just for numbers. :D

Right now I have to say shakey head worm as ever since I started seriously fishing this bait I feel like a damn crackhead--I cannot put it down.

How about this as my go to bait:

A plastic worm, a hook and a weight :D

With these basic components I can utilize several different presentations.

For numbers, for me, you cannot leave that darthead jig out of the equation ... especially for those spotted bass lakes. I've also caught my share of bass from the Delta and Clear Lake on a darthead as well.

Jason,

LOL,,,Look again.....The flag states its the 19th Hole on Tour. Opposite it is the 20th where last night a 6lb 3oz came to play on Jigs and woody's. The woodys played well along the Main Ruff wall.

Ran out of Flags, them coyotes play hard at night.

As far as numbers, When the bite gets tough my confidence bait to catch bass anywhere is a t-rigged 4" ribworm on a sliding 1/8oz bullet weight.

I would say senko. Smoke hula grub on a 3/8 oz jig takes a close second.

On another note...

What size/ kind of hook are people using when throwing a 5" roboworm/ strait-tale worm?

Shad colored spinnerbait...fish it fast, slow, yo-yo, deadstick, bulge it, stop'n go, deep, shallow, fished in weeds, through snags, bounce it off pilings, skip it under stuff, muddy water, clear water, running water, still water....there's no more versatile and adaptable lure.

Just my $.02

This is my Go To Bait, and my Favorite bait. If I was stranded on a deserted island I may not eat fish everyday but I would have fish to eat every day.... a close second for just putting a fish in the boat would be a Darthead either on a tube, worm, etc...

That's a good question. In the Delta and on Clearlake, for me it would either be a Jig or Spinnerbait.

Most of my numbers come from a dart headed 6" worm, pearl Super Fluke, and a watermelon Senko. The drop shot also catches me numbers. Toss in my jig rod and spinnerbait rod and I might be able to get by with 5 rods on the deck. Too many choices!!! Can tackle buying be considered a disease? If so, I don't have long to live.

1/0 EWG.

Last time I was out I ran out of those hooks and was using a 2/0 superline red hook and hey bit those too. Although it may have been a little big for the bait.

Only one bait? Hmmmmmmmm, well then I would have to say if I had to chose only one bait it would probably be a Drop Shot rig, you can utilize that anywhere on this planet to get your numbers. Second to that would have to be the good ole faithful jig..

The go to bait, is a bassectomy 6" worm in the "casper" color dropshot or darthead  this bait will catch them anywhere there is shad  even where there is no shad  and that includes Eastman <JT> that bait has won me quite a bit of money in the past. Sorry Dan I had to give Merrit a plug   Mike
