Tora tubes

I've started experimenting with Tora tubes and I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing with 'em. Currently, I'm using a 6/0 hook and pegging a 1/8 oz. weight and using a variety of retrieves ranging from twitching them anywhere from 1-5 feet deep like a jerkbait to fishing them similar to the way I'd fish smaller tubes on the bottom.

I understand that this isn't exactly a numbers kind of bait but still, I'm not sure I'm getting the best possible action out of this lure and I'd appreciate suggestions on how to rig and work this lure. Thanks.

They make a leadhead for fishing Toras, it slips inside the bait w/ 7/0 hook.

Dakine is right, they make a jig head just for the tora (click on the link below my name "canyon-plastics")......and it sounds like you are working it right......it is really a better site bait for big fish on beds than it is for searching....but you can throw it like a swimbait, but you have to pause it more to allow it to fall.....you can always call Garry Garland at the shop.....he loves to talk fishing....

wanna cool little trick that we do for the stipers, and the occassional largmouth will hit it...get a cheap topwater (walking bait) like the Rebel and insert it in the cavity of the tora tube....make sure you take the hooks off, then push the front eyelette through and then the split rings for the hooks...put the hooks back on and you have a new way to fish topwater.....we use the pearl white ones, but I'm sure the other colors would work too....

I'm here! Sort of.
Been jammed up trying to fill orders for Basstrix Paddle tails. I made the mistake of adding 5" and 6" models to the bassitudes.com web site last week and haven't had a moment's rest since.

As far as fishing them, what you're doing, fishing it as a jerk bait, is the method I perfer for the most part. I fish it usually on 1/4 - 1/2 oz. leadhead w/ 5/0 hook with a #4 treble for a stinger hook.
However, I do change it up. I have fished it

As a surface bait, (I use a piece of wooden dowel with a hole drilled through it,
and with a spoon shoved up inside.

One other thing I will note. You are limiting yourself if you are only fishing the top 5' of the water column. I'll go as deep as 50' with it.
Fish it on the bottom, verticle jig it, swim it for suspended fish, know guys who troll it, the list goes on and on.

I fish them from the surface (stock tube) to the bottom. I melt a little plastic and fill the inside / nose area of the tube......then I pinch and hold it to narrow the nose in a bit. Narrowing out the nose gives it a killer erratic action and it also makes the bait heavier for throwing in the wind and fishes the depths much better. Oh yeah, it holds the jighead in real good too. So I have "standard" and "heavy" tubes in my boat to cover whatever I need.
