MUSCLES IN PIRU

Post by JW Wheat »

All, You may want to stay away from Piru for awhile. I just fished a tournament at Piru Saturday and was approached by the ranger when we got off the water. He wanted to check our boats for muscles. I told him we hadn't been to the river so He didn't have to worry about it. He then told me, he needed to check it, because they have found the muscles in Piru. Freak'n great! They tell you nothing when they take your twenty bucks at the gate. If this guy hadn't come around nobody would have been the wiser, and we could have possibly spread it to our other lakes. He said they are extremely small about the size of sand and hard to spot. They are not sure how bad the problem is yet.

Well if its in Piru

Well if they are in Piru, then isnt it safe to assume they are in Castaic and Pyramid? As all three lakes are connected with the same pumps?

Didn't think of that, but that makes sense.

Actually I don't believe they are connected by pumps. Piru is simply downstream from Pyramid (they both sit on Piru Creek) and relies on mostly on releases on rain runoff to fill and does not pass water back and forth with Pyramid or Castaic. Piru is managed by the United Water District and I believe, primarily sells the water for crop irrigation.

I know last couple of times I was there they were concerned about the quagga mussel occurences on the Co. River and asked if my boat had been out of state recently.

Gary you are correct about Piru water. It has nothing to do with Castaic.

Piru and Castaic both get water from Pyramid. Piru has to buy theirs.
