Security of Electronics not in dash?

Post by Morgan »

Is there reason to worry about fishfinders that are mounted on holders like Ram mounts compared to the ones mounted flush in the dash and in the bow? I'm in the process of looking for a newer boat and never had ones mounted on a mount. Are they stolen in parking lots? Like while waiting for weigh-ins?

Thanks, Morgan

Most guys stow them when they are away from the boat. At least the smart ones do. Just put them away when you put away your rods. That's why the quick release Ram and Johnny Ray mounts are popular.

Let's put it this way. If you know someone named "Bob", you could lose both units--the one on the side mount comes right off in a heartbeat, so to speak, and the one mounted by the trolling motor that is flush with the boat comes out pretty easy too. The less expensive unit on the dash apparently isn't worth the trouble.
