Done. A while back we were asked to send a letter to state officials concerning the situation in the delta, which I did. I received a letter from Assemblywoman Lois Wolk thanking me for my input. Nice to know we voters are acknowledged sometimes.

Already sent!! Just another way for the government to get money from the taxpayer and not show anything for it. Why don't they charge a fee to all these foreign flagged ships just for entering a U.S. port. If they already have a port tax, increase it. Just don't tax the individual boat owners.

Dear Mr. Huffmon:
Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 2550, the Recreational Boating Act of 2007. It is good to hear from you.
In 1973, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized that it would be costly and unnecessary to subject recreational boaters to the complex Clean Water Act permitting requirements that were intended for large source polluters such as cruise ships, cargo ships, and supertankers. Therefore, the EPA issued recreational boaters an exemption. In September of 2006, U.S. District Court of Northern California issued a ruling, which nullified the EPA regulation that provided this exemption to recreational boaters. Additionally, the court has directed the EPA to rewrite the regulation by September 8, 2008.
To counter the court's decision, Representative Gene Taylor (D-MS) has introduced H.R. 2550, the Recreational Boating Act of 2007, which would codify the EPA's 34-year old exemption for recreational boats. This legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for further consideration. As your Representative, I will support policies that effectively balance the interests of those who use the lakes and rivers for recreational purpose and the need to preserve the quality of these waters. Should this bill come before me for a vote, I will be sure to keep your views in mind.
Again, thank you taking the time write me. I look forward to hearing from you again on issues of importance to you.
Sincerely,
John T. Doolittle
Member of Congress
