Nah, no ignorance on your part.
I should have made my post clearer.

I have heard of , but not seen nor fished, a new bait by Yamamoto called the Flappin Hog II, but am totally clueless about this bait. I was hoping some of the members here could clue me in with some info on it, or links.

I figured some of you guys already have fished it...

Haven't heard of the F.H. II yet... I know they stopped selling the "original" F.H. last year. Check out "Hollywoods" website. He had a video on different rigging techniques for the original.

I've got some a friend sent me from Japan.

Kevin's page seems to be down but I saved that video.

He skips them under docks, and in weeds.

He shows 2 ways to rig them.

He uses a hook, a weight and a stop above the weight. Then a 2/0 hook in the tail or head, bury tip to be weedless. It looks like a Texas rig with a sliding weight.

Or just a hook put inbetween the pinchers, then out, then I think he turns the hook and puts the eye into the top, it ends up rigged weedless. Then he adds some nail weights to the body not in the way of the hook and hookset, and that's it.

I'm sure he will chime in and explain more.

Here's what they look like.

"I'm going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We'll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

"OK guys, Who brought the banana?"

I also saw the FH II advertised on the website then when I went back to see when they were to be released I couldnt find it anymore! I have some of the originals I paid an arm and a leg for off eBay and they are pretty awesome baits. I rig them on a darter,football,One-ton,texas rigged,etc-ever how you want to use them! Maybe one of the Yamamoto boys like Cooch can answer if and when they will be out?Tight Lines

1 oz tungsten weight, punch it through the Delta slop! That or use it as a jig trailer on a brown or black jig! Check E-bay, find someone in Japan who can aquire them for ya, that's yer best bet! They are nice, but not so special ya gotta make a big fuss about em, I believe the Yammie Kreature and Kinami Nori Bug are better pieces of plastic!

I'm taking the 5th on any further discussions about this bait, too much gossip floating around the seas on the FH!

I am with Cooch on this one. I obtained some last year(via a friend in Japan) and they work, but really no better than the kreature or bug, as mentioned and they are lots harder to get. Have always rigged them on a jig head or as a jig trailer. Bill K :)

I have several bags that Jon Walton had at his store prior to them being pulled back from GYCB. To date I have not fished them much, figured I needed to make them last as long as possible. There is no reason to pay a premium for the bait. It seems like a good bait, but several other creature baits would work as well. If memory serves, they seemed to be a bit shorter and bulkier than some other creature baits.

The flappin hog II that was on the GYCB website awhile back had some very small modifications in the tail design from the original.

At the regular price they are worth it, but don't pay a premium for them...wait you should pay a 300% premium if I decide to sell mine.

The first pic is the original flappin hog first introduced in Japan and now only available there. (It did appear briefly here in the USA but patent issues caused its sale here to be discontinued rather promptly.)

The second pic is the new flappin hog jr which will be available here in the USA soon.

There are at least 5 auctions on Ebay right now for flappin hogs. The US versions are about $9.00 per pack for 7 baits and the Japanese versions are about $15.00 per pack for 7 baits. What are the differences between the two?

From what I can tell they are the same.

I picked up some my last trip to Japan and then I was able to get a few from TackleWarehouse before they were pullled from the shelves here in the USA both baits were exactly the same; Flappin Hog.

I don't think the Flappin Hog Jr is available for sale just yet. If you bought a Yamamoto spinning rod you got a free bag of the Jr's as part of a fathers day special Yamamoto ran on their site. I remember reading that special, seeing the pictures of the Jr and the note that this new bait would be available soon in the USA.
