It's hard to beat Walton's Pond in San Leandro. Jon carries most of the latest stuff and can get almost anything. The customer service can't be beat.

Certainly the Hook and Walton's, but don't forget Dave's Bass Shack in Tracy, Tracy Oasis Marina's tackle shop, and near Berkeley you have Bay Discount Tackle and Outdoor Pro Shop!

Visit them all and see what floats your boat!

Geography please?

In the East Bay, it's Walton's Pond Period.

Oakley is not easy bay, it's the Delta; more or less the Valley. That's why you get Sacramento and Bay TV stations.

As far as the Delta area goes, Hook is great.

In the Valley, can't beat Dave's Bass Shack.

Foothills, it all about Glory Hole Sports.

Best of luck to you. All of them are great shops.
Don't be lame. It's just fishing; you are not the new mesiah you know! Check your attitude at the door Mr. Spinners on da boat trailer.

Closest shop to Berkeley that I know of would be Discount Mart Bay Tackle in El Cerrito and Outdoor Pro Shop in Oakland.

The Hook, Line and Sinker. And now they have their FFL, so you can now buy your rifles and shotguns and other hunting gear while you take care of all your fishing needs. In our area no-one does more for sportsman period.

I like and agree with Tony's suggestions for places close to Berkeley, however for Danville, go down 580 and hit Walton's Pond. Every time I have been there they have a great selection, and know what they are talking about.

I rate them as

1. Walton's Pond
2. Outdoor Pro Shop

If in the delta go to the extreme angler or hook and get set up as well.

I live in Concord, work in Lafayette and you really can't go wrong with any of the sponsors or one's mentioned so far from my experience.

Waltons is a Devil Mountain Sponsor and gives us a discount for our members. I like John because he a smart buyer and carrys the "right" tackle. Plus, he is very diverse and can set you up for lakes and the delta. I have pulled a map with John and we "trade" knowledge of a given body of water. Just remember, what ever information that you give John is now public knowledge.

We are also big fans of our friend Gene at the Hook. He opens at 5:00 AM and if you are on your way to the delta or launching from Russo's, the Hook is the natural choice.

Both John and Gene are dedicated to our sport and supply us with the specialty tackle that we need. I am thankful for both shops and support both with my hard earned dollars.

I ask that you do too.

Waltons Pond. I have never met John but my fishing partner, Galen, has traded there forevever and John always sees to it we have the latest. Its sort of like, tell John I need this or that and here it comes. PLus, John has to be a first class guy to put up with oh nevermind. LOL

Walton's Pond is in the East Bay.

Nothing like being greeted with a friendly "Hello can I help You" from the owner of the shop. If he knows you, just add your name to the end of that. He is knowledgeable, he loves the sport, he has an awesome selection and he will personally take care of you. I rarely find someone else working behind his counter. He doesn't over sell you on stuff you don't need, and you are not going to get a grouchy employee that can't wait until the store is closed so he could go home.

Well how East do you mean? Deep east will be the Hook but my local shop is Walton's the nicest guy I ever met. John is very friendly and always points you in the right direction. Even taught me how to use a baitcaster out in front of his shop 11 years ago.

If I'm not mistakeing I belive Daves Bass Shack is out of buisness :( also Extreme Outdoorsman is gone too.

The hook is a direct dealer with Bass Pro Shops so if they dont have what you need the can get it for ya from BPS or if BPS doesnt have it then that can order from anywhere else that will have it and probably get it to ya with in the week! Great customer sevice!
