Red hooks

Post by FISH2WIN55 »

Does anyone put red hooks on their top water baits. If so do you put the hook on the front back or middle? If it is two hook set up do you go front or back?

On the ZaraSpook .... I just replaced them all with red.

The stock hooks on that bait suck more than the hooks on a Kastmaster spoon.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

red in front, gill region. Replace hooks on all baits with crappy hooks.

Actually I was wrong.... I remember for the Zara -- It was not the Super Spook and only has two hooks.

Put the red up front and the feather trailer hook in the back of that bait.

The Vixen - (same size as the zara, just thinner profile) - came with 3 hooks that are great... and we have not had to change any of those out.

I fish the Balsa Pros which is a walking bait and I ALWAYS have a red hook in front and a feather in the back.

I also do this with me DT03's and DT06's. I've been doing it on my shallow running crankbaits for a while now. When you stop it in a tree or bush the feather opens up a little and the fish crash it.

This works awesome at Clear Lake when the topwater bite slows down.

I don't believe in the red hook hype! I'm sure it works for some, but not me. I do change the hooks though, just not red.

I think it's a personal choice but I'm with g-man on this one. If your gut says to put on red hooks go for it. It won't hurt. if it builds your confidence it might even generate a few more bites. But, I'm of the opinion that presentation is what will get bit on hardbaits, not the hook color.

ditto red in the front....if your deadsticking especially...red reflects alot more so than the bronze hook color.

I have two each of my favorite topwaters... one with a red hook in front and black in back (Gammy EWG's) and the other bait with two Gammy EWG's. If they aren't eating one... or just missing it on the blow up I will switch the bait to see if I can get a little more solid of a bite.
