Need a New Topwater Bait!

Post by BassManDan »

I've been looking towards some new walking topwater baits.

I've narrowed it down to the top 4 choices.

Please reply if you answer "Other" and lemme know

TO ME, FOR ME A SPOOK RUNS MORE TRUE AND BETTER THAN A LUCKYCRAFT SAMMY AND YOU CAN BUY 4 FOR THE PRICE OF ONE.ALSO SUPER SPOOK AND BUZZBAIT !!!!!!!!! LUCKYCRAFT IS WAY WAY WAY OVER PRICED FOR WHAT YOU GET AND CAN LOOSE JUST AS FAST AS SAY A BASS PRO SHOPS XPS EXTREME 4" LAZER EYE SLIM DOG FOR SAY $ 3.99 WITH LARGE HOOKS.....

I guess if I did not own any of them I'd now get the Gunfish. That is because it's supposed to be the best for pressured lakes, which down here in San Diego county I believe that's where the name was coined.

As far as 'other', I think the big wakebaits will now have their time and place too, right?

As far as cost, I'd wish the L/C were less expensive, but if lures outfish others by two, three or four to one, is it that bad? If they catch at the same rate, then it's an obvious choice, but I'm learning that they don't.

BY the way, I had not heard of the XCalibur Jimmy, so thanks, now I know aout it and will have to get one.

All I need to get into the money would be the four I usually get along with a 20# kicker.

I'm handicapped and find walking a spook more difficult than walking a sammy. However I get a better hookup percentage on a spook.

(Other) I really believe my favorite top water lure is the old tried and true Spook.. Second place would be a frog.. It is just great when something with a big old mouth tries to swallow one of them.. Bill K

Lugnut,
Got one in my box, I rarely throw it, just might have to spend a day with it tied on!

As others have posted; I find the 6" Lunker Plunker one of the best big fish top water baits I've tossed. Plus you get outstanding customer service support from Black Dog Lures. Hard to beat.

I prefer the Vixen. It is a louder bait than the spook and a little larger profile.

You guys are gunna laugh but I picked up a box at the auction for 10 bucks it had about 40 old wooden jitter bugs. Most in the original boxes. Allot of the big ones to. I guess bass havent seen these in a long time and are nailing the heck out of them. Plus they are idiot proof and do the walk the dog thing auto pilot style.

Now what about for smallies?Alot of the baits talked about are more for largies.I do know I like to throw the super spook and the sammy for smallies.Another good smallie bait is the pop-r or simaler brand. For largemouth without a doubt for me is the Buzzbait.I feel it is the best BIG fish top water bait I have ever used.Even in 100 degree weather in mid-day this bait works.GB...Jim
