What's the biggest fish YOU'VE ever dumped?

Post by DougH »

Up at Casitas this morning, I dumped a hog in the 15-20 lb range. I've caught fish up to 16, so I know she was BIG. After she ate my jig, she came up to jump, but she was so fat she could only get her head out, and shake her head at me. She then just swam down, peeling my 12 lb P-Line off the reel like nothing. She stayed down deep for a while just cruising around. Then after what seemed like hours, but was maybe 30 seconds, and for No real reason, POP she just came unbuttoned. WAAA !! After wiping away my tears, I went on to a good day including a 5 and a 7+, until the global warming got to about 146 degrees, and I went home.

Whats the biggest fish you've ever lost?

12-15 lbs at Perris on of all things a 4 1/2 inch worm with a small weight in Aug. Same thing happened, so big and round that she could only get her head out of the water then she dogged me for 30 or so seconds and just came off. Damm 6 pound test, I should have just railed her. Next cast I got one of my personal best bluegill's over 2 pounds. I wonder what she was feeding on? At least it was durring fun fishing not a tourney!!!!!

Lower Lagoon a few years back. 3 fish over 7 pounds in 4 casts. The 5th cast results in a hook up that has my heavy action rod doubled over 15 lb line is peeeling off like nothing gain some line peels off another 20 yards. then she comes up tired and is on the surface almost within arms reach 13-15lber with bugged out eyes the size of quarters, swims a little to the right, gets a wierd angle on me, a little head shake on the surface and pllink out pops my jig. Then it just sat on the surface for a while almost within arms reach.. then it went back down.. my friend and I were speechless

Last year at DVL I lost one that had to be 13 to 14 easy. Hooked her on a Texas rigged 7 inch Blackgrape Roboworm.

I hooked the fish off of a point on the north shore, and after finally getting her near the boat, and with my partner waiting with net in hand, she jumped, shook her head, and threw my set up right back at me. I just stood there shaking.

My partner that day was from Indiana, and he was freaking out because they just don't grow them that big back there.

If everyone could have only been on the lake today to hear ol'Dougie after he lost that "donkey"...Pour guy...I have never had a fish close to that but when he was telling me it's like he saw a ghost...completely white in the face...he went on for atleast 10 minutes about it...I thought he was going to have a nervous breakdown...but the next time I saw him, he had 7.8lb in the boat...smiling but that 1st fish still had him a little shaken...

Damn Doug, you and Dave "The Poolman" are on them...

See you on the water...

12-13 pounds at the Delta on a top water. The fish broke every split ring on the bait. It was the most explovise strike that I have ever had.

It was durig a tournament where I had 26 pounds in the boat with a 9 pounder and the big fish hit and took me to town. It was a learning expereince.

All I got back was the bait without any hooks or split rings.

Please change out your split rings.

Lost a huge fish at the lower lagoon that bit on an Ika.

Never saw the fish, but it had my 7', medium heavy rod doubled over and was peeling the 12 lb Izor Platinum off my reel like it was thread. This fish was surging like a yellowtail!!

Had her on for about 20 seconds before she came unbuttoned.

This fish pulled much harder than my PB of 12.3, so my guess is that this fish was over 13 lbs.

Then again, it could have been a catfish....Na, it was a bass.

I lost a 10lb plus bed fish in a ABA tournament at Casitas about 12 years ago. The hole lake heard me scream.

15+

I had caught an 11 and a half a few weeks prior. Fish made a mad run jumped once, yelled to get the net, jumped a second time and spit the worm in slow motion.

It dwarfed the 11 easily.

My PB is 14lb 15 1/2oz. I lost one at DVL that was way bigger, how much I don't know but I was shaking after the brief but strong battle.

While we are still in Fantasy Land

Post by ash »

I will say mine was 24.25 LBS out of Woodbridge, on a Pocket Fisherman , using the Helicopter Lure and whatever line that Shaw is touting today. Man that damn helicopter lure just started spinning around on the line and acted as a turbo charger causing the line to snap back and grenade the rod. I was in tears for days......then the peyote started wearing off..........

You were probably use too small of a worm. I use 9" to 10" worm to start with until I find that it's just too much and scale back from there.

I catch elephants with peanuts..

if you whip out the 9 inch right out the gate the tend to spook.

the pink snappers have been out in full force as of late..i guess they are pelagic.

Actually its a cousin, but not to be confused with the one-eyed trouser trout or the wrinkle BACK brown trout. The latter grows to enormous size and only strikes when you are miles from shore.

12 pound Northern Pike about 36" long at German Lake in MN. I was 14 years old. Had a cheap Japanese spincasting reel with aluminun spool. The line cut a notch in the spool and hung up and broke. My dads landing net was only 24 inches across, missed him on 2 passes. I took the reel off and threw it as far as I could. Sat in the boat mumbling the rest of the day.

200+ pound tarpon - Barra del Colorado - Costa Rica. I fought her for a good 15-20 minutes when she made a run straight out in front of the boat and broke me off. Man, was I pissed. It took me four more trips to Costa Rica before I finally landed a big tarpon (125 pounds). I have since caught several more in the 120-125 pound range, but nothing like that 200 pounder that smoked me. Oh well, I'll just have to keep trying!

Here's a photo of my 125:

I just dumped my biggest fish today...I'm sick to my stomach...

At Casitas, I fishing down the bank with the wind at my back and on the trolling motor...throwing a swimbait...as I go down the bank I see a shadow...a huge shadow just sitting there in about 8 feet of water...with the wind and the trolling motor its too late to stop so I just drift and hit the bank...hoping not to spook this thing...I thought it was a carp but no its a huge bass...I hit the bank and I'm 10 feet from this beast...I'm watching this fish watching my bait that is right beside the boat...SO I start twitching it and wouldn't you believe it, here she comes...right on its tail and i have 5 feet of line out and doing figure 8's...It chasing it back and forth...it goes under the boat and her she comes back...twitch, twitch...slam...and I set the hook to early...SH@TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

I'm having a beer hoping I will be able to sleep tonight....Its on instant replay in my eyes...

ANyway...I'm going back out tomorrow to get her in the boat...

I'll tell ya what fellas, I just watched the video from Dave's fish he just wrote about. It's pretty cool, wait till ya see it. He has a couple feet of line out and it looked like he was teasing a bulldog with a meatybone!!!...the fish was chasing the bait feet from the boat.. and comes right up underneath the bait and you see the whole thing happen...she was just nosing and bumping the bait...finally slurped it...a splash...and a whiff!! I'm not gonna judge the weight of the fish, kinda hard from the video but it was definitely a good one!!

The video should be up tonite.
