Ill be making the switch to braid. I had a big one come off at CL last weekend with 25lb Pline. Lucky for me the fish spit the lure a few minutes later. My line snapped off about a foot from my knot.

I guess that's my short comming. someone reccomended 65-85....so I went with it.

I dont care much for playing a fish cuz my line is light..Id rather winch them in and make another cast.....time is money...

Most of it is confidence..... Some guys have such a lack of confidence that they think they need parachute line to land fish.... Just takes skilz there bruizer...
LOL...I throw it on big braid too. It's not because of lack of confidence. It's just I cant afford to break off a 60 dollar bait...

I throw the 8" Punker with 65lb Power Pro... I've also swapped out all the hooks and downsized the front hook.

Braid will snap as I've launched mine on a narrow spool reel. However the reaction time you get with braid for working and setting on the bait gives you much more control. With the 8" bait you can cast it a country mile and really need some control.

85# Stren Braid. I've found two things where the 85# just seems to work better, first off in getting the bait to move right away. When I used 25# mono, Fluoro and 65# braid, it would take 2 or 3 tugs ta git it ta start walking right on almost every cast.

Secondly, I toss that sucker into some heavy cover, especially around the tulles. That 85# braid is strong and I can yank it out more easily versus chancing breaking it or having to go up into the shallow area where the fish are with my boat and trolling motor.

6" LPunker is more than big enoufgh for my pole/reel -- 65# braid.

The braid I am using does sink though and makes the bait not work as it should.

Not sure to try and wax it -- or replace it with PowerPro ??

Yhea- the braid I have how was spooled for free when I bought the reels. that braid in both different poundages was flatter -- almost rectuangular.

I replaced one already with w/PowerPro 20# on the tule crankin stick.

Been looking at the 500yd PPro spool at the Hook -- Just a big trigger to pull when I am really wanting a shell cracker as well.

Rover vs. Lunker Punker

Post by Alex M. »

Has anybody tried this new bait from River2Sea ?:

If so, how would you compare it to the lunker punker(aside from being cheaper)?

I just ordered one, to see for myself if this thing is worth a s%#t. Do you think I can throw it on my Swimbait rod spooled up w/ 20 or 25Lb mono. I'd prefer to use 20lb if possible. I think I could pull it off without losing too many fish????

Ya.... you could also go with a magnum spook 7" or a super mag wich is the same as that rover at 9".

Turns out it was a 10' piece of flat iron bar that was bent at a 45 the last three feet of it that would spin in the tide when off the bottom.

My question to all you braid users with the Punker is do you have your drags set really loose so that the hooks don't pull free when the big girls make a surge? That Punker is awfully heavy and can be flung lose pretty easy.

My drag is set purty tight, even so, they seem to be able to peel line, even though it's tough fer me to strip it off by hand. Typically, ost of the fish I am catching on that thing, have the whole bait and all three hooks wedge in their mouths, I've not had any fish toss that bait once hooked. And most of the time, the battle is not violent as they give up purty easy with that big ole thing plastered in their face.

I've actually put it away, damn stripers are in and can't leave it alone!

For all of you that have trouble with sinking line. This helps. I run clear wax about four or five feet up my line from the lure when tossing top water. It keeps the line floating, some what repels the water, and allows the line to smoothly gulide on the surface.
