MORE RUDE TOURNAMENT PREFISHERMEN
A MAN AND HIS WIFE CAME IN THIS MORNING TO BY A TROLLING MOTOR PROP AND EXPLAINED TO ME WHY. THEY WERE OUT FUN FISHING THIS MORNING AT LAKE MC CLURE IN TEMPERANCE BAY/CREEK. SHE PROCEEDS TO HOOK INTO A LARGE BASS. TOP WATER I WILL ADD, AND QUICKLY, SOME GUYS PREFISHING FOR TOMORROW'S FPT TOURNAMENT SAW HER AND HURRIED WITH WAKE MAKING SPEED AND PUSHED THEMSELVES IN FRONT OF THE MAN AND WOMAN, ONLY TO BE CUT OFF EVEN BY ANOTHER BASS BOAT WHICH CUT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER JERKS MAKING MORE WAKES. NEEDLESS TO SAY. FUN FISHING MORNING WAS OVER FOR THE MAN AND HIS WIFE, AS THE WAKES PUSHED BOAT INTO ROCKS, BREAKING HIS TROLLING MOTOR PROP ..........WHY DOES THIS CONTINUE CONTINUE CONTINUE ????
THE ONLY REASON I KNOW THEY WERE PRE-FISHING FOR THIS WEEKENDS TOURNAMENT IS BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEY STATED TO THE COUPLE ..."SORRY BUT WE ARE PRE-FISHING FOR TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND AND NEED TO KNOW WHERE THE FISH ARE" !! HUH???

You mean the bent rod style of pre-fishing isn't good enough..Now you need to jump on top of the ones with the bent rod..Sounds like a real "neat" way of pre-fishing..Too bad it draws such negative feelings from those you want to "share" the water and excitement with..Can't find them on your own, so infringe on someone out having a good time..Real bright, don't you think..

As long as there are tournaments there will be people fishing them (obvious point). I'd like to think that most of the people that are into this are good people and MOST everyone I've run into have been a great crowd to be around but, As with anything else in life, you run into people with a very high degree of arrogance that think common courtesy and RESPECT do not apply to them. Such as the guys that Jig's mentioned at the start of this thread. Jig's I totally agree with you...It's not the organization...It's the indvidual. It's a shame that things like this happen because it gives those of us that do understand common courtesy and respect a FAT black eye.Fishin' Dave wrote:this is why tournament fishing is on its way out.

THIS IS MY LAST POST ON THIS SUBJECT, BUT I CAN TELL YOU FOR A FACT, MY WIFE WORKS AT THE GAT5E AT DON PEDRO. THE STATEMENT FROM HER IS AT LEAST HALF OF THE BASS FISHERMEN ARE RUDE, INCONSIDERATE, LIARS, AND TRY AND CHEAT YOU OUT OF EVEN PAYING FOR GOING INTO THE LAKE..

Re: MORE RUDE TOURNAMENT PREFISHERMEN
The ones who refuse to behave civilly throw a bigger wake behind them in whatever they do, whether it be fishing, driving down the highway, or whatever.
That wake effects everyone in their path one way or another.
How to fix the particular problem of tournament fisherman running over the top of the average fun-fisherman trying to get in his one and only day this month?
No prefish within 2 weeks of a tournament.
That should create a scene where everyone is finding fish on go-day instead of finding "their fish" as they most often couldn't expect "their fish" to be there after 2 weeks.
The ones who just plow through everyone anyway might disregard this rule but the idea of being DQ'd because you were seen fishing inside the two weeks might just cause that bunch to be a bit more subtle about who they announce their presence to while on the lake.
I'm not a tournament fisherman but I am a fun-fisherman.
I'm also not a fan of creating a new rule every time a problem comes up but this one seems like it might have some merit.
I'm sure there are many things I haven't considered but in essence would this work?

I have never had the pleasure of having someone cut me off like that. I guess thats the benifit of being a 285lb Marine. I would jump on there deck with a oar and start clubing them and everything in site like a baby seal. Then I would shoot holes in there PFD's and blast the plug in there boat. There problem solved. I have a small anger issue sorry.

Jigs,
My PM was not intended to offend you or state that you were blaming the FPT. I was merely attempting to give the info. to go to the source of that organization. Vince has always been straight with me thus, my comment to contact him. Although Vince has no control over who chooses to fish any given tournament,as I stated, I'm confident Vince would address this issue.

Jigs,
As a tournament fisherman I take exception at being generalized based on the actions of the few. You didn't even witness the event you are venting upon but you are ready to castigate your revenue base because of it? There are rude people in all walks of life tournament fishermen, tackle shop owners, weekend fishermen etc...I don't generalize all of them if a few are bad apples. I guess the next time I am heading up to McClure I will stop and get my tackle at Fisherman's Warehouse in Manteca as it sounds like you don't care for my type too much. Scott Crawford

Bram, these type of guys dont care if its a 285lb marine or 130lb candyass....If they're gonna do it, they're gonna do it. They cant help the fact that maybe they're either inbred? or daddy didnt love'em enough?<-----I could come up with a thousand insulting reasons for that type of behavior but, I'll stop here
I have had a few occasions with similar situations to this and there are very subtle and effective ways to deal with it...that wont get you thrown in jail!

Guys, STOP saying that there just a "FEW" bad eggs. You may have thought that, but this thread should open you eyes to the fact this needs to be addressed. How should it be addressed? *** kicking will put you in jail and spark retalliation. The correct answer is to speak up against this poor behavior. If you do not, you will continue to be lumped in with these guys.
Scott, why are you taking exception to Jigs for speaking the truth?? I think that is a bit weak. Jigs supports tournament fisherman, he is stating here and now that he does not support rude fisherman at McClure and the 50% at the Pedro gate.

It cant be the majority, but I guess with boats, money, points and bragging rights on the line NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

Dave,
I never disputed Jigs' support for tournament orgs or their fisherman. I stated that as a tournament fisherman I take exception to being blanket labled due to the actions of a few turds. I found it odd that he would take shots at the very people he caters to in his business. I have been involved with rude people in all walks of life but I don't characterize others based on those interactions. The particular event that initiated his post was told to him by others, he did not even witness it. That is even worse. I am sure if my wife was fighting a big fish and I was helping her I would not get every detail of what was going on around me. Then be able to relay it exactly to a guy at the tackle shop and then have him relay it onto the internet. I am sure there is no room for any errors in that process, right? If they had sped over and offered to help would they then have been labled saints? Relay the story if you like and let others draw their own conclusions, but don't spray everybody else with sewage while you are at it.

Re: MORE RUDE TOURNAMENT PREFISHERMEN
Hey dont get me wrong if someone comes up and I am on fish, and ask I could care less. I dont mind if some one crowds me in and is casting in the same place I am. There are a lot of people still learning to bass fish and I am happy to put them on some fish. I am generally a really friendly guy. On the other hand if some dude that has more patches on his shirt than he weighs is rude and gets in front of me, Im going through them. Forget subtle they need to learn some manners. And thing is a better teacher than a beat down. And guess what I bet that dude doesnt ever do it again. If the dog pisses on the carpet you rub his nose in it. I will be happy to jump on his boat take a piss and rub his nose in it.

This happend to me at CL a few weeks ago. While my buddy was parking my truck I started throwing the spook. Second cast fish on. Nice 5+ A couple guys started to holler that there was no fishing in the 5mph zone. My buddy hollered back and we kept on fishin. I hooked into a 2+. When I fish tournaments its for fun. Maybe this is why I dont understand these guys.

Does this really happen. Do people actually just come in front of you and are that rude. I have been fishing for a long time and have never had this happen to me. I have had plenty of people come up and ask how I was doing and if they could fish my spot and I am fine with that. But I just cant see a another fisherman being a a##hole like that.

This was the statement I took exception to. I believe that bass fishermen are generally some of the best people I meet on a day in and day out basis. If the guys who cut that man and wife off came into Jigs Tackle would he have sold them some equipment? Only Jigs can answer that. But if he practices what he preaches then he would refuse them service.

Re: Ok so maybe that wasnt my last post on this
It happens out here on the river quite a bit. I can remeber one day my buddy was fishin a tourney and hit one of his spots and a guy was down the way. He asked the guy if he could fish behind him and the guy said no so he left a little unhappy. The very next day we were fishing and went by the same area and saw the same guy in full tourney gear fishin a tourney and what do you think happened? We pulled up on the guy and started stickin his fish and talk a lot of s**t. He got all upset and just sat in his boat and glared as he motored away from a serious whoopin'. Sometimes kharma is a bitch.

I hope you continue to run in to the good bass fishermen.
The point that is missed here and is best illustrated is how tournament bass fishermen treat folks NOT IN THE TOUNAMENT. I think tournament guys are nice to other tournament guys because they are on the same "level", or sportsmanship rules dictate they must. How often have you seen tournament guys take attitude with the guy in the tin boat under the praise "I'm in a tournamnet so move out of the way". This is the issue here boys. How we in big $40k bassboats come out and "ruin" others days the same way we feel wake boarders ruin ours.

Re: MORE RUDE TOURNAMENT PREFISHERMEN
Happened to me once so far and Ive only been fishing for a about a year now.
In all fairness, before I started reading up on fishing ediquit, both here and elsewhere, I might have crowded a few people while not knowing I was doing anything wrong.
"Life is not perfect guys, sometimes we just have to deal with it!"
As true as those words can be they don't apply everywhere.
At some point the only way change something bad is to do something, or at the very least let your voice be heard. I don't advocate taking the law into your own hands in anything but outright self-defense. But I sure am tempted. More so every day. It's not getting any better on it's own and we're all in this together.
If your kids are heading towards a life of being disrepectfull, trash talking, thieving, drug dealing street thugs are you going to "just deal with it" or are you going to get very pro-actively involved?

The problem isn't with bass fishermen or tournament bass fishermen, it's out there in every aspect of our society. Too many people just don't give a hoot about the other guy, it's that plan and simple. So sure, it ends up showing its ugly head in the tournament crowd. I'm not a bit surprised.
I see it everywhere I drive; people driving like maniacs, passing you on the right hand side of a one lane road and flipping you off as they do it, turning into oncoming traffic just so they can pass your vehicle and then you see them at the next stop sign or light, folks rolling through stop signs even though your vehicle was already there at the intersection. It's an unfortunate sign of the times.
Or the kids that blast out the ghetto music filled with vulgarities and degrading lyrics about women, volume so high it makes your vehicle rock and your home windows shudder.
There are many more examples but it's a fact we all live with now. So many folks out there that believe they have entitlement to behave any way they chose and screw everyone else.
What do you do about it? That I'm really not sure of but I do know that confronting these individuals is likely to land you in either trouble or in harm's way.
What we can do about it in tournaments is simple, know the rules of the event you're fishing and start writing down CF #'s and keep a cellphone with video capabilities or a video recorder on your boat. Start filming the idiots that are acting like fools and turn them into the tournament authorities. If they refuse to start DQ'ing the idiots then take your business elsewhere. It' might sound like a pain but the problem is a pain also.
And don't think that it's just the newbies into the sport that are the problem. I've seen guys that have been fishing for decades that either do stupid stuff on the water or think they have the right to fish any spot your on regardless if you were there first.
Personally I just lower my head and keep fishing. Half these guys are doing it to either rile you up and get into your head or they're just so damned ignorant they sincerely don't know better. Any way you handle it the jerks of the world flat out don't care what you have to say and they'll continue to behave the way they do because many people just don't care enough about the 'other guy' or int his case, the other boat anymore.
It's sad, but like the old song goes, "What the world needs now... is love , sweet love". And unfortunately we don't send that message out to everyone often enough. My best advice is to start with yourself. Send out the message that you truly care about the other folks around you and maybe the world will respond in kind to you.

$$ bucks on the line=pushing the limit
Look at Bill Bilocheck, and that formula one racer($100 million fine). Also, think about what Razor & Mr. T said. "When stereoids hit everyone jumped on the bandwagon." At least when it was related to "The Record". I think a large percetntage of baseball players were taking some sort of "grey area" supplement. Common sense says a 40 year old cannot throw 90 mph+. Use your head! Most people do not. Now stroids are on the backburner and the latest flavor of the month is "cheating". Their theory is soon we will all become acomostimated to it (cheating) UNLESS people put their feet down and say enough is enough. Unfortunately I believe this.
maybe this is why it doesn't stop

Re: MORE RUDE TOURNAMENT PREFISHERMEN
Just why does everyone complain about tournament fisherman....I have just as many fun fisherman cut me off, fish too close and run past me in the five mile zone...There is this guy who fishes McClure in a ugly old old Nitro who is the worlds worst jerk..He will follow you around and just fish right next to you and then start playing leap frog, down the bank..then there is the guy in the little bassbuggy pontoon boat who has followed me all over that lake waiting to see where I fish and what I'm using... Then there is that old Guide who thinks he owns the whole lake and tried to chase me out of " his " area..
Phil, there are a lot of jerks out on the water.......I'm not making excuses for the rude guys who cut the couple off, but maybe there is more to the story than they told you...

I find it refreshing that Tony can always come into a thread and make sense. I guide all over the mother lode and never had anyone follow me. In over thirty years of bass fishing I can remember less than ten unfortunate situations. Fishing is supposed to be fun!!!! Try to make it fun and pity the miserable ones!!!..

The last two time's I went down to San Antonio there was a couple of tournament's.I could tell they were club tourny's by the early season start and amount of boat's.
Half the guy's waited for me to launch ahead of them, came over and talked to me it was cool.
Launch when there's one of the larger circuit's..........

So because you pay taxes it's OK to break rules as you see fit.Rich hamilton wrote:"trying to beat the gate fee" If I added up all the taxes I pay just to be able to fish and live here you are damn right I will sneak in and out whenever I can. If they can only afford an iron ranger than guess what I am going to beat them one way or another. can you imagine how many mouths all of our taxes feed?
Cool.
