Float Tube Tourney guys question

Post by RipnRog »

OK so we have located a small pond that is about 2 football fields in size. The place is never fished but has a lot of quality fish in it. Would you be willing to fish this for one of our tourneys. Oh by the way you can only launch in one place because it is wall to wall tulies....

The pond is surounded by tullies, on one side its deep, the other is more shallow! weeds all over it! there are good fish in it! the biggest i have ever caught out of it is 6plus...lots of 2 to 3 1/2 pound fish! Its small so it would make for an intersting time. it has a couple of arms in it too.

rip have you heard anything about gibson ranch. I dont know if it is private but I know it has fish. I might have to check it out, I think it only a couple of miles from my house. I hear people wispering about it in the wal-mart fishing dept all the time. I still want to get on LOP but it isnt easy.

LOP is a long term project. It will happen eventually... for the time being I am trying to find a series of small lakes that we can access.

I want to keep these at places where we dont have to worry about boats and massive traffic. Keep an eye out fellas.

I missed your first event but would be interested in fishing this one and any others may that follow. I like your idea of an informal tubing group.

Maybe you should collect email addresses for an informal tubing mailing list. Just an idea if you haven't already thought about it...

Hey since we are talkin a small pond, I will bring my tube again. What do you guys use to fix leaks. I think I can get to the inside and patch it. It is a seam leak, or right next to it. I have another tube but it may have the same issue. Or should I just fill it with packing popcorn one by one, and be ready to fish by spring.

Matt M, bring it! lmao! thanks again for letting me and Steve crash at your moms pad for the TOC!! Clear Lake soon brother!!!!

Brambo, They make patch kits, you should be able to find them in your local fishing store, unless you prefer to be pumping all day like last time. lmao! I gotta give ya credit for dealing with that all day.

Yeah I know, I will check gibson. I have a good place up here in Auburn that is a little bigger. It is lake Thorton its off the clipper gap exit on 80. You can see it from the road. It gets poached hard in the spring, but it has bass to 8#. I never got one over 6 there but it is a nice lake. No boats, tubes and kayaks only. And it is legal. I have a guy in my bass club that lives there, I am sure he would want to go to. I think he has the fish named in there so he would skunk us all. It has tulies, rocks, and weeds. Plus it get vitamin T to make big bass.

I dont know either. The people I have over heard talking about it looked like rookies. Hey I used to know a guy at church that owned a bunch of ponds out in pleasant grove. It was called ryan and amandas fishing hole. It was like fishing in an aquirum. He let me in for free but I think it was like 50 bucks a day or something. I caught a 60# sturgeon in there on a grub. I think it is closed now but I will check that out to. He had all the ponds labeled like 4 to 6 pound bass pond. 15 lb catfish. He used to raise and sell the fish to restaurants and did the fishing thing on the side. But its probably another long shot. Most of the ponds wouldnt need a tube, they are clear and I could walk the bank and hit all the water. But the fish just sat there waiting to be fed in the same spot most of the time. I think hot dog was the lure of choice for most out there.

It sounds great. Please set the date around our clubs Blue Lake tournament this weekend and be sure it's not during our TOC at Clear Lake Nov 16th and 17th. I will probably be there with members in tow. We'll need to know your rules and reg's. I remember you mentioning some thing about weighing the fish and writing down the weights then releasing them? If you want to do a regular weigh-in, I'll bring the certified scale if you want and help you out with the weigh-in. Sound's like fun for sure and I know a few others that will come for the fun.

That will happen but right now none of us have live well system.. Soon I suppose. We try to keep it on a small eough body of water so we can show each other our fish.... keeps it honest... We are looking for the perfect body of water. I have an idead for another format but I will keep it simple for now...I have your dates noted sir and I look forward to meeting you...

Mather is about half to a third the size of Rancho Seco. It is a pretty small, shallow pond with tullies around the shoreline. There are some big bass in that pond with the largest I have heard going over 8lbs. They do stock that pond so I wouldnt be suprised if there are fish over 10lbs.

I would prefer to fish the small Folsom pond that you suggested but would love to fish Mather also. Lets choose a date then choose a location. You cant accomodate everyone so I think it would be best to just choose a date.

Lake thorton is good for allot of people, about a 40 acre lake. It has some good bass. The big ones are really cautious, they have all been caught a few times I think. They have trout or vitamin T in there that they eat, makes them big.

I can fish any day this weekend. My next club thing isnt until feb I think. I may just take the boat and hit folsom or Clemintine. I think the wind is supposed to really pick up though, a sheltered pond might not be a bad idea.

For a few bucks I can tell you where the pond is.... LOL.... we have to find somewhere to fish comfortably for about 15 people.

thorton would fit up to 30. We wouldnt be on top of each other. But it would be slightly crowded. Google it, its on the clipper gap exit of 80. Its a good size lake. It has weeds, tullies, sand bars, timber, and rocks. A little for everyone and they all hold fish. It got poached really hard this year, and I am sure there are a few 5 gallon buckets a day that come out of there. But I think there are still a few toads in there. If we get enough people we could do discovery bay. That might be great place. 5mph and good fish.

I'm interested in fishing with you guys. I'll look up Thorton later.

I fished Disco bay out of my float tube on Sunday. The tide isn't moving too much so it's easier to get around. My buddy that I was fishing with hooked into a striper on a crank and went for a nice ride. Too bad the striper almost sank MY battleship. I let it get to close to my tube and it's dorsal spine poked a hole in my tube.

I would definately be there for a tourney on the Delta!

Either way, please keep me in the loop. I'm always looking for more tubers to fish with!

Also, I have started an email list with some of my friends for a (totally) disorganized tube fishing club. kickin-bass-fishing-club@googlegroups.com

It's real easy to set up and all you need is everyone's email addresses.

I like RipnRog's idea of a paper tournament (measure, weigh, record and release) the best--it's keeping to his original concept of the informal tube gathering. There are already two Northern CA tubing/pontoon clubs (BNT/SCBBBC) with more structured rules and official type weigh-ins with electronic scales. I like RipnRog's idea to keep it small and informal--people should fish the BNT/SCBBBC tournies if they want prizes, weigh-ins and a tournament atmosphere...

I totally agree with Blue_R70. If I wanted to fish from my tube with the purpose of winning money, I would check out BNT. But, what draws my interest in fishing Rog's events is more of the comradarie, fishing stories, and learning local ponds. Let's set a date Rog...

Id probably be down, i know exactly what pond u guys are talking about, i fished it this morning. Ive got mixed feelings about this one though. Ive been trying to keep that pond a secret for the past 3 years because it really does kick out some nice fish. I wonder if ive seen you out there G-man? I just worry about it being fished out or trashed or the privilege being revoked. There is already enough garbage from bankies and other idiots that keep fish they shouldnt be keeping. It could be fun though...its a fun little pond, im not sure if it can accomodate 15 people though. Another thing is the water level in that place constantly fluctuates. It was nice and high today though, and crystal clear! Just some things to think about. Lets pick a date, and get things goin one way or another.

G-man, rip, can I wheel my kayak in there. Were is this place, PM me. I used to fish a bunch of ponds out there long age before they built everything. Its hard to figure out were I am at in folsom anymore. Used to just follow cattle and deer trails to my ponds out there. They built houses around 2 I used to fish. And I think there is a paint store sitting in front of one of my favorite ones now. I used to be able to ride my dirt bike from Coloma to praire city out there and never cross any street other than go under highway 50.
